Poor old piano. On closer inspection it's obviously been exposed to the elements for a long time. How stupid of the owners to expect someone to want it. The wood's all warped and the keys I pressed made no sound. It's fit only for the dump.

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Well, I don't know, I'm doing well at the gym but I came home and went to weigh myself and can I find my scales?

Milly will be glad to know I've raised my standards and actually ironed a duvet cover. It came by mail order and was very creased, so I had to, really. A duvet cover's an easy shape to iron, I suppose, but there's a lot of it. I'm not sure the end result is perfect, but it will have to do. I feel quite smug about having done it at all.

I've just noticed you've moved into quadruple figures, Mary ... Congratulations! Congratulations on the ironing too. I agree it's a very satisfying thing to do, it's just not one I get round to very often.

I agree it's a very satisfying thing to do, it's just not one I get round to very often. So I have! I didn't notice. Ironing was pretty boring. I did it to Verklärte Nacht. I expect somewhere there's a CD called "Music to Iron to".

The Sport of Extreme Ironing (for those for whom ironing their sheets, pillow covers and duvet cover every single day isn't quite enough.)

Sad sight on the pavement in Poynton, Cheshire - a lone piano in the rain, with a sign saying FREE on it. It's on the Woodford road, a couple of hundred yards from the station if anyone wants to rescue it! International Piano Rescue is listening! Thunderbuckets are GO!

Milly, Back, sac and crack is, I believe the name of the procedure. Cripes! I`m glad I`m not a chap (there is no suitable emoticon to use here. Can we have an Ouch one please, John?) I have a horrible feeling that I`m going to get into trouble here. Gulp.
