I believe sugaring is considerably less painful than the wax application advertised in Milly's charming cartoon.

The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley

Cripes! I`m glad I`m not a chap Not all of us have hairy backs, y'know. As for the other regions, up until now that exclusive band of people who have had dealings with them seem to have been happy with the setup as it is, or they haven't said anything if they weren't... but would they actually? Suddenly, all those seemingly innocuous comments might fit together into a picture of revulsion and disgust... You don't have any useful phone numbers do you time_is_now?

Traditional stubble burning is much cheaper and still legal I believe as long as you don't do it near a motorway.

this quote would not be out of place on the off topic thread.

Gosh. Will waffle ever be the same again? 'Marmite as waxing agent'? I'm a great big mixing churn of emotion at the moment, with associated occasional nausea. In my more logical rational moments I realise that I have to be patient and wait for my emotions to calm down, and that this is the only way that I can go forward. But I've eaten a lot of stuffed peppers, potato wedges, stuffed vine leaves, lemon chicken, pistachio nuts, chocolate cake and ice cream tonight so I'm keeping unchurned. Hope enough of it is sufficiently digested by the time I go to bed...

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

We were talking about Grandmas on here not so long back or maybe it was another thread - and the relative ages thereof. I noticed that the grandma in the news today is only 46. I think she looks a good deal older than that but hardly surprisingly given the circumstances. All this sad news. It's all very depressing.

It is depressing, Milly, but that's in the nature of news. Usually only the bad things make the headlines. I have to keep telling myself this or I'll be in the Depression Room again.
Meanwhile, how's your cold/flu? It's at least lovely weather. The apples in the garden are nearly ripe, so I've got to persuade my 6' 4" son to come and reach at least some of them before the wasps and birds finish them off. There are pears as well, but they're inedible (except to wasps), even if cooked.

Hello Mary. My cold was much more severe than usual. It's been diagnosed as flu. I was really bad in London and had to have emergency medical treatment when I arrived back on Saturday night. I've been ordered to stay in bed this week and I'm on antibiotics for secondary infections. That said, I feel 100% better than I did yesterday, so I'm on the mend. It's very slow though and I'm so tired. I must have just got exhausted and run down I suppose. I'm not going back to the gym until after our holiday in October. I'm going to spend the time resting up and getting fit for then. I have a few apples on my trees. The birds as usual ate all the cherries earlier on. I haven't seen many wasps at all! I think there must be a shortage of them around here. It was lovely meeting up with George at Wiltons Music Hall and we did so enjoy our sing-song. He has a gorgeous Herr Flick accent for the Schoenberg. I think he was a little non-plussed when I climbed on to his lap and sang very loudly in his ear, but he was very gallant and didn't complain. I just hope I haven't given him (or anyone else) this awful bug. Mort decided to give our meeting a miss this time and very wise she was too in the circumstances!!!
