Thanks increpatio, I shall be watching it myself tomorrow.  It seems like a long time since the end of series 1.
Indeed.  I only got into the series right at the very end of the easter break that other people found rather irritating.  I think they're going to fill in the gap this year with a miniseries, however.  If watching it wasn't a social occupation, then I'd just wait until June and watch the entire series.

A question: why do all the sci-fi / fantasy programmes restart at the same time?  I've had about 3 months of watching stuff I've borrowed from others and now everything is back on again  Roll Eyes

Doesn't *everything* start back now?

I only follow desperate housewives and heroes, so I don't know about other things, so.

Hi again Increpatio, as a sci-fi fanatic, Stargate Atlantis is back on Friday, I've recently ordered SG1 series 10 (it should arrive in December), I've just bought series 2 of Battlestar Galactica and now series 3 is out...so it's mostly really my fault as I've been watching stuff I've borrowed (Firefly and Serenity - probably the best sci-fi film I've seen in a long time) and so allowed things to pile up.  It's a shame my wife doesn't follow any of them so I end up sitting infront of this pc with the headphones on when she's gone to bed which is, as you say, not exactly sociable!   Grin

The most interesting sci-fi film I've seen of the last year is Sunshine I think.  I didn't like the trailer at all, but went along to see it with people and didn't know what it was until I was inside.

Another Browncoat? Excellent news! I was a little disappointed that **** was killed at the end of Serenity and I would like to see more of Shepherd Book, but then there was always a question mark hanging over the possibility of a romantic intrigue around Captain Reynolds.

Hi KB,
Yes, it was a shame that character was killed, I was really very surprised when it happened!  There are persistant rumours of another series being made as it has such a cult following.  If I hear anything, I'll let you know!

Ooh! Caffeine rush! I think that I should possibly give coffee up or at least give up drinking it on an empty stomach.

It's funny how many sci-fi fans end up doing this. My brother has a 'play room' where he retires with his laptop and headphones, and I used to have to record things and watch them the next morning while my ex was asleep.

Right, time for bed.
Tomorrow I've got to sort out all of these scores (though if the worst comes to the worst, my houseguest can sleep in the boxroom) - which might require a trip to WHSmith to get some files or something - some shopping for the weekend (I fancy some more seafood), and look at some flats in Edinburgh on the internet.
Night all.

Morning all.  I haven't been on the Waffle thread before, which is quite strange as it would seem to be my natural home.

Am musing on several random matters this morning.

Actually having started to type them out in some detail I realise they come down to two random matters, so to summarise:

(1) I am overweight and unfit
(2) It is two days since payday and I am already skint (not to the point of spending money I don't have, but my reserve of "funds not earmarked for anything else" is down to almost nothing already)

Anyway, rather than having a moan, here is my proactive action plan.

To address point (1) I am joining a gym.  I am waiting for documents to arrive from PruHealth insurance (which enables me to join the only gym I really like, but can't afford at full price, for a cost (including the insurance premium) that's equivalent to the gyms I can afford but know I'd go off really quickly).  The short-term downside is that the immediate need for various items of sports clothing is having an alarming effect on point (2).

Point (2) should take care of itself really.  There's little else I really need this month.  I simply haven't got back into my usual routine since the Proms finished, and it's been three weeks!

Anyway, that's me for now.  Must do some work...

Welcome to Waffle, Ruth Grin  I doff my cap to you. The thought of joining a gym fills me with horror, but that`s probably because I`m a wuss. And probably an anti-social begger Sad  Or just completely lacking in self discipline Cheesy Cheesy Which, come to think of it, is  probably why I am frequently afflicted with your Point 2 ! Hmmm ....

In my early to mid twenties I used to go through a natural weight-fluctuation cycle (put on half a stone in winter, lose it in spring, put it on again in summer, lose it in autumn...) and was up and down between a size 12 and a size 14 (never quite one or the other as my proportions aren't consistent with a standard dress size).  I was a gym member once before, and was a trim size 12 (ish) and had loads of energy and felt great (it didn't last, cos I joined a gym that was cheap, and it turned out to be inappropriate for my needs).

Then, somewhere along the way, the downward bits of the cycle stopped happening, and I stopped getting enough exercise in the course of my day to day life, and somehow I'm now a size 16 and counting Shocked

Plus I'm going to be 30 next summer and I've had so many friends who've told me how much harder it is to get fit and stay fit once you get into your thirties.

I am determined to stop the rot NOW!

I'm in a conference in the Barbican.  It is full of waffle.  The best but is that it is in the Barbican.

Is there any sort of conference that isn't full of waffle?

The best but

I've never been in that sort of competition.
