Everyone (almost) is robbed in Barcelona. (Not me, actually.) One of my sons had his luggage bag stolen - and he was sitting by it at the time. I also know someone whose handbag strap was cut through and the lot taken. What a nuisance though, Milly - but the rest must have been really good . The rest of the trip was absolutely excellent thank you Mary and even that experience was only a blip - a nuisance as you say. If your passport is taken you're in big trouble though. The Polish customs lady was telling me that an American lady had her bag taken with ALL her money, cards and her passport. They wouldn't let her back on board her particular ship - I forget which ship she said but it was not the one I was on. She was stuck in Barcelona, no money, no cards, no passport - nothing. She had to make her way to the American Embassy to obtain a temporary passport - presumably they loaned her some cash (?) and she rejoined the ship at the next port. Not good customer-relations that surely? To kick you off the ship with no money, proof of identity - nothing. I wouldn't have got back on if that had been me. I'd have gone home in disgust. Anyway, it was my own fault in my case, for letting my guard slip like that. I've travelled extensively and never been robbed before. It was totally stupid of me to let my bag go behind me whilst I took photos. I was furious with myself because I'm usually so street-wise. Also naively I suppose I didn't think I'd be pickpocketed in a Cathedral. No respect anywhere any more.

Sounds as though you had just the break you needed, Milly (apart from the "blip" ). We took Barnaby Bear on holiday too - not to such exotic shores but to Orkney. I was worried we'd lose him as he perched precariously on the railings of ferries or on the edges of cliffs to have his picture taken!

Hope you be ok Jonathan.
Hi brassbandmaestro, I assume you're refering to flooding in Suffolk - we moved and are living Yorkshire now so probably an equal chance of being flooded in either place! Anyway, we've just returned from a weeks holiday in the Lake District and it was lovely. Much more chilled than we were before we went and (as you can probably gather from my other posting) I managed to get some writing done as well! Didn't compose anything this tme though - thought I'd better stick to the writing! Managed to write lots of shell labels and discovered that John Ruskin was a conchologist (hence the random comment on the off topic replies thread!) On with the motley...

Until you mentioned that Ruskin was a conchologist I had no idea. But he was a recluctant one evidently. Are you allowed back on the Internet now Hi Anna, Judging by the amount of shells in his house at Coniston Water, I should say he was quite the opposite of reluctant! He also composed too, a copy of a song of his was on the piano while we were there (no, I didn't play it, I didn't feel like playing that day!) It just another thing that makes me realise I was born out of my time. Well, I wasn't really not allowed on the net but as long as I'm not on too long and clicking away at the keys while Lynn is sat behind me then thats fine (she's in the kitchen at the moment)! Back to shell investigations now!
