Menzies Campbell and the age-obsessed press. Sadly, this time the press won. Tommo

I have a horrible feeling that this day is going to go wrong... I've got up late and once I get in, I'll be teaching from 12-5 with just half an hour's lunch break. I haven't actually made my lunch yet and I'm going to have to leave really shortly. Blah blah blah. Stop moaning and get on with it!

That reminds me of an occasion where I was trying to tell my 'Hans Werner Henze meets Oli Knussen' story to three new friends (one of whom was Biroc if memory serves). I suddenly was aware that Richard Steinitz was orbiting our group and he looked like he was going to say hello to me. Now the story in question has rather a lewd punchline, so I got progressively quieter and quieter as Richard circled us in an ever-tightening gyre until, thank the Lord, I reached the punchline. By which time I was practically inaudible... I had to repeat the punchline twice before they heard, just loud enough and perfectly timed that Richard suddenly veered off and away to talk to someone else. Anyway, round 1 of the washing achieved is achieved is (in stylo Mask of Time, not Haydn). Time for a breather before assaulting round 2... I really should be more disciplined about doing it as I go along. I use far too many pots and pans to leave it even one day.

Got back yesterday. The cold isn't too bad, but was inconveniently timed to coincide with the transatlantic flight. My ears have only just popped. At least the food poisoning and subsequent aftereffects were long since out of the way.
But I don't want to moan too much. It was a good tour - good company, good music, good concerts, good hotels (mostly). It got tiring towards the end, but all in all it was enjoyable and good-natured.
Now all I have to do is learn the Four Seasons. Hmmm.
I've been trawling through pages of unread messages, trying to ascertain what I've missed. I think I must give up on striving for the greatest negative prize in the snatch competition.
I hope everyone is well?
