I often wish that I could be more like that. When I do get up and don't have to be anywhere, I work really well in the morning but for some reason I find it much easier to stay up until the early hours and get up late. Maybe I should just try going to bed earlier... Now there's a thought.

But we know how that works don't we? Then one goes to bed and just lies there until more or less the hour one would have retired anyway. On the whole I'd rather have the lovely quiet hours of (say) 12-2 am at my disposal than the wretched hectic hours of 7-9 am which I'd much rather leave to those who don't have any choice but to join in the rat-race...
Or is it just me?
(I need pretty regularly to be at peak concentration between 8 and 11 pm to work, anyway. That's hard to do if you got up at 7 am. And I haven't yet found out a way to get to sleep by midnight afterwards.)

I found it easier to go to bed earlier and get out of it earlier when there was someone I loved in it. Nothing to do with sex (wipe that smirk off your face!) and I'm not being self-pitying here (well maybe a little bit) but I really did find that I became a different person in terms of sleeping habits during those long summers we had together. In fact, I have never been happier than I was during those periods of my life. I now look forward to the times when I can experience that with someone else.
Hmm. Get a grip.

I'm definitely a late night person, I'm often on the PC until 2am. I frequently feel really tired about 6pm but then I'm wide awake later so I don't feel like zzing.

I'm at my most creative at night - despite being tired I can come up with my best teaching ideas at midnight eg imaginative worksheets to inspire the kids. After being scared by that earthquake at 1am I then couldn't sleep - so I drew a wonderful thermometers worksheet for maths the next day! It amused them when I told them that. Of course I'm dreadful at getting up in the mornings - I think I need a 26 hour day/night...

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

I was watching David Attenborough's programme about snakes earlier. I was quite amused by the Californian King Snake which has 2 sexual organs, one of which points to the left and the other points to the right - so he's OK whichever side his lady love is lying on.
I suppose it means he could be "friendly" with 2 lady snakes at the same time - no, stop it Andy, control yourself!

That serpent in the Garden of Eden knew what he was doing. He must have been the originator of the menage a trois! (As well as everything else he's supposed to be responsible for.....)

The Unanswered Question always has a rather odd effect on me, making me relax but also feel slightly fragile. I'm playing what I think is a rather lovely playlist I put together over the summer. I'm now on to Billie Holliday singing You've Changed. Time for some cheese on toast.

I've been feeling something like at the end of my tether for most of the weekend. Emotionally drained. I've also been juggling a whole load of Durham coursework and I've just applied for another job - shhhh! I need to sleep now but I've got a shed load of marking to get done tomorrow and some coaching of an ensemble in the afternoon. I think I was evil in another life. Night all.

Gosh. Hope you're feeling a bit more on top of things by the end of the week.

Hmmm. I have now been told by BT that BB is "now active" on my phone line. So I'm sitting here looking at the hub and having distinct misgivings about takiing the plunge and sticking the disc in. Will the Mortmuda Triangle strick again? Considering that yet another appliance gave up the ghost on me yesterday I'm not sure that I like the odds. Gulp.

I have an interview tomorrow. The first interview I've ever had. For a marketing job. Gross, eh?
I keep on wondering if there are 'illegal interview questions', like there are in america. Several recruitment agencies have asked me for my age, asked if I had a criminal record, one even took my photograph when I walked in (they did ask though: I should have refused, of course). Can't find anything about it on the web though.

incre, I get the impression they're much more lax about that kind of thing over here than in the US. Technically they're not supposed to ask child-bearing-aged women if they're planning to start a family any time soon, but what seems to happen is either (1) they work in a roundabout way of hinting at the question, or (2) they just assume that she is. Discrimination based on age is not actually illegal here (I don't think), and I find it astounding that most people actually put a birth date on their CVs.
I hope the interview goes well - unless you don't want it to, of course...

I'm surprised you're astounded, strin. I was certainly told years ago that a CV was no good without it, although perhaps times have changed. Then there are the stories of how all applications from people aged over 40 are immediately binned. How do they know they're over 40? In any case, all jobs I've applied for recently require you to account for everything you've done since you were 16, with dates. They can easily work out your age from that. As for questions that are not allowed, the only other one I know of is whether you belong to a union. But I find it common that application forms require you to attach a recent photograph. I do admire people who change careers as I've always found that they want people with some experience in the first place. And people who manage to get a job abroad have done very well, I think, in the cases where visas or work permits are required.
