You may be interested in another of his quotations BBM...

...then there is also this one:

"The best instrument is the bag-pipes. They sound exactly the same when you have finished learning them as when you start."

I was on holiday in (what I thought was) a quiet corner of Crete 2 years ago, when a chap in full Scots regalia appeared playing his bagpipes outside the taverna!

Surreal.

I really dislike the Debussy Violin Sonata. Only realized that today. I find that very liberating, somehow, that realizing that I have an opinion that I didn't know about.

Sorry to hear that T F , I love it! But... I do agree , it is so liberating to admit there are pieces of music, or types of music that you don't like.... and don't have to like!!!!

Hey A, name a piece that you knew for a long time before realizing that you didn't like it. Or perhaps anyone else ahs such an anecdote to relate. Not worth its own thread, though, I imagine.

I am beginning to wonder whether or not I really do like Elgar's Introduction and Allegro.

Well, TBH I don't think I ever liked Sacre -- perhaps because I was under too much pressure to respect it.

TBH = to be honest; did I just coin something there?!

Love to waffle, I do. Now. New thing.

I'm trying to think if there's a piece of music that fits that description. Largely it's a matter of discovering that my initial dislike of a piece had something to do with a superficial judgment.
