Perhaps where you come from, the definition of a virgin isn't a [girl/boy] who can outrun [her brother/randy bear/randy boar/randy skunk]?

Or Richard Branston!!

Yes he did get in a pickle with that balloon didn't he?  Wink

Given that I've probably not mentioned here that I've opted out of the life academic, following a chat with someone this evening, I find myself completely amenable to the idea of becoming an actuary. Indeed, this profession pays enough that I wouldn't have worry about moving costs, so I'm going to see if I can find any such work over in London. This is good I guess, as until this evening I would have honestly preferred another data entry job.  I'm not too happy that money has come gun the equation, but maybe I should slip about with delight that my professional aversion to both qualification-appropriate careers and to money-related reasoning have vanished.

I work with many an actuary.  There are many types, but you all have you go through (is it 13?) exams which take years to become qualified.  Worth it in the end if you really enjoy it but hard work.

PM me if you want any more insight into the many types of actuary.  I doubt it would make good reading on the R3 board.

As some of you may know, I am on a musical pilgramage at the moment, with the music of Elgar and VW. I am systematically goin g through the EMI Collector's Editoons of these composers. There are always one or two pieces that really get to me with these compsoers. VWs Tallis, Elgar's DoG. Although the composer is not mentioned, John Ireland, its this man's 'A Downland Suite', always gets to me more. I dont know why. Another example is Holst's 'A Moorside Suite', especially 'Nocturne'.

If we're having pictures of composers with dogs, I insist on this one:

(That's Clytie the dachshund.)

Or composers who were actually dogs?
