That was my first encounter with Arthur Lowe (or at least his voice) but we also had the LP called Moveaboutalot on which he narrated a number of silly animal stories (including 'The Squirrel of Wirral'). My parents probably still have it...

I have a small bedside clock (analogue) with a glow-in-the-dark face. I can usually make out where the hands are in the dark, especially since it's not that far away from my face (presuming I'm facing the right way when I wake up).

Feel like I should be back in bed.

Lowe was a fantastic character actor, wasn't he.

I've just been sorting out an old box of stuff most of which i'd not seen in years.  Things like childhood badges, old cards and postcards and so on.  It's only when you move do you realise how much junk you have!

I still have that ahead of me. I've got an awful lot lurking in the Durham house.
I've mostly moved out of my parents' house except for one cupboard full of my misspent youth (little wargaming figures and rulebooks) that I really keep on meaning to put on ebay but either can't quite bring myself to do it, or haven't found the necessary time. If it carries on like this I'll just bin the lot.

'Don't tell him, Pike!'

"You stupid boy."

I associated him principally with his role as Captain Mainwaring so his vocal dexterity had never really impinged on me. Of course he pops up in dozens of British films over a period of decades, but never really in a role which showed him as anything but a dependable character actor. Or am I wrong? (Stanley?)

Pretty much a character actor's CV -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Lowe

I'm amazed that, despite being nominated for a BAFTA no less than 5 times for his role as Mainwaring, he never actually won it...
