We would have been glad to see it go to a good home...

after the reverse gear packed up, and the dashboard used to catch fire when you turned the heater on, and you had to hit the solenoid with a hammer sometimes to start it...
Are you trying to tell me something here?

Haven't cycled in years; last time I took it up, after a several year break, we were on some cycling/walking trail somewhere down the english countryside, and I cycled straight into some (circa 30 yo) mother who was out walking with her young kid.  I felt just *terrible* about it.  I saw myself cycling straight for her, and was unable to think what I should do.  She was relatively unharmed, just a bit scratched.

Ayway, that was some years ago.

On the HAPPY side of this post, I purchased a breadmaker today.  Woo.

So, Martle, is that one for sale? Does it have electric windows and air conditioning?

I wish, Richard. When I was in the States I got to drive one of these for a while. Felt like steering an oil tanker; I imagine...

Not noticeably green, if I may say so. I did tootle around in one of these (a descendant of your red one, I believe) in the US for a little while

All very fine if you want to go in a straight line for a long time on a wide road.

We lived in the US in the late 1980's and we had a white Mercury Sable, bit like this one

It's a Ford, and was very much like the Scorpio/Granada in Europe at the time.

I used to fly around to visit car plants across the states and often got upgraded in the hire car to a Cadillac like this Seville circa 1990:

I've been thinking I'd really like an automatic this time. Maybe I'm just not as much fun as I used to be.

Thanks to my driving instructor I've never really trusted automatics. I'm still happier driving a "stick" as the locals here refer to them. Or better still, a pushbike. It seems that these days,

I think car manufacturers were slow in making their vehicles harder to steal because they benefited from thefts in the long run, as did garages who carried out repairs. The insurance companies simply put up their premiums and it was the poor owners who lost out.

I keep wondering whether or not to buy a car. I have been without one for 6 months... could be nice. Any ideas anyone?

A friend helped us to buy a car from the net. There are many sites.
The same friend just came from England somewhere (may be London) with a Porsh for his daughter.
There must be people who can help.

It depends on how big it needs to be and how much you can afford, A, but I've been very happy with my Fiat Panda.
