I came across this, which was completely new to me, while having a little google for the upcoming Schubert Ensemble concert in Galway that t-p mentioned on another thread (that looks a real treat, t-p: that Martin Butler gets everywhere ). http://www.arup.com/venues/project.cfm?pageid=7333Any further details from those here who know about such things? It all looks rather exciting. Is it going to be yet another reason to defer moving away from the grimy South-East to an idyllic rural life somewhere? <alwaysintwomindsemoticon>

This was the place that, at one stage, might have provided a home to spnm, bmic et al, as well as the Sifonietta and OAE. (And the Grauniad, upstairs.) The developer is a nutcase, but heart very much in the right place. The 'consortium', for various reasons (including expense) felt it wasn't right for them; but it looks set to be a major venue, just down the road from King's Cross and EuroPancras. There's BIG money there, I can tell you that.

And the opening events at this new venue are now booking. Website here: http://www.kingsplace.co.uk/ Lots of juicy things including one particular concert that happened to jump out at me: 10 45 am Friday 3 October Schubert Ensemble Martin Butler - American Rounds Vaughan Williams - Piano Quintet Short but sweet, one of many approx 45 minute concerts as part of the opening Festival. And no details on the website as yet (or I can't find them anyway) but we seem to be promised ELISION at some point in the nearish future.

It's in walking distance. Noted in the diary, but I never like booking too far ahead.

Yes, they lost marks from me too for that. Grump. (I'm afraid I resorted to my usual wheeze in such circumstances and "accidentally" added an extra digit somewhere in the middle so that it won't work if they try it.)

Just noticed this. Should be able to get 'round' to it. Don't like the website much though. It doesn't seem very user friendly. Or do I mean Mort-friendly

Up betimes and, after breakfasting on a halfe barrel of whelks and a pint of best Porter at Mistress Pretes of St Pancras, to the New Concert Room in the Kings Place in the Stews behynde Kings Cross, a district previously knowne to me onlye for [indecipherable] but now the haunt of manye Consultants and Projectors at their business. A moste excellent Consorte played most harmoniously Mr Martin Butler's American Rounds which gave great delight. A pleasure to meet the Composer and also Mgr Don Basilio who was in attendance. And so to my Chambers at the Admiralty, pausing only in the New Wharfe Road pour les [indecipherable] and a plate of Fine Mutton at Mrs Cater's.
