Hmm, another concert during my busiest two weeks of the year.  Sorry I won't be able to be there.

Just about to head for the 15:00 hours Greenline, so should make the concert on good time.

Just back from Mr Smith's recital. Just excellent! Not being a musician, I cannot do learned musician-speak, so I won't Grin My humble self enjoyed the 42  1 minute pieces enormously. I detected some quiet snuffles of amusement from Mr Garnett, seated to my left, at some of the, ahem, musical references to great works from the past Wink Me, I tittered internally.  And as for the final  work, it was a blinder! IMHO.

Congratulations to Mr Smith. Thank you for the music.

Those present from r3 were

trj
Tinners
George Garnett
Bryn (doing complicated stuff with mics)

The pub afterwards wasn't bad either! Grin

All in all, a jolly good evening!

Among the dedicatees in attendance were John White, Gavin Bryars, Sarah Walker and others. I listened to one of the recordings on the way home. Despite Jonathan Powell's somewhat noisy meanderings found the upper floor, apparently searching through scores, he does not seem to have been captured too prominently by said mics. Wink

A delightful concert indeed. Hearty thanks to Dave Smith, and to autoharp for alerting us to the event. Wink

I hope he got a good recording because I would love to hear it, if the obviously pseudonymous Mr Smith wouldn't mind. Glad you all enjoyed it.

Hear, hear. Just to add my congratulations and thanks to Dave Smith too for a very enjoyable and successful concert this evening. Packed full of interesting and arresting stuff and, like Mort, I was particularly taken with the big final piece On the Virtues of Forests.

Hearty thanks indeed.

As mentioned, I listened to one of the recordings (the main one, though the backup seems o.k. too) on the (coach) journey home ('noise blocking' headphones). I have now topped and tailed the three performances, including the applause following the 42 one minute pieces, and "On the Virtues of Forests", the total time comes in at 79 minute, 52 seconds. That seems just about ideal for a single CD-R. Mind you, the files are currently in 96/24 definition, so they could go onto DVD recordable, just as easily. I will do some more editing and level adjustments tomorrow evening, then downsample, noise shape to 16 bit, and burn to CD-Rs on Thursday (my other 'rest day' this week).

Many thanks for the appreciative comments - and especial thanks to Bryn for his recording efforts. It was a pretty friendly venue - and finishing an evening concert by 8.00 is a jolly good idea!

Great to hear it went so well, and congrats to Mr autosmith! I sent my apologies and am very sorry to have missed it, but I'll be placing my order for one of those CDs...

I'm going to counter all the appreciative comments so far and put in a good word for the first piece. Enjoyed all the concert, but I thought this was particularly striking.

Not sure my head appreciates the extra pub time this morning!

And could I order a CD too please if they're on offer?
