I've been waiting for someone to post on this thread all day, because I couldn't remember which section of the board it was in. But apparently it's been there all along and just didn't appear in my 'Recent replies' list! I'm going to go with Tim and plump for the first piece, but I also particularly enjoyed the one-minute pieces, partly because I felt quite pleased with myself for spotting so many quotations! I thought the 'New World' piece was especially brilliant, and I was very taken with the impressive Nancarrow-ish 'Six against Five' piece (although I seemed to be counting almost every polyrhythm but 6:5 ... !!). Nice little bit of Till Eulenspiegel too towards the end of the 42 - my favourite Strauss piece. My head wasn't feeling great this morning either.

Having briefly discussed the issue of CD-Rs with the composer/pianist concerned, would any members here desirous of obtaining a copy please PM me. A nominal charge to cover costs has been suggested by DS. There will be a choice of normal audio CD or audio DVD recordable with 96/24 versions (playable on standard DVD players - no need for DVD-Audio compatibility).

Nudge and squeaky piano stool warning. You have been warned. All applause has been omitted from the CD-R and DVD recordables as a result of an agreement between the composer and the pianist. If requesting a DVD recordable version. Please state whether DVD-R or DVD+R is preferred.

Well, since mention has been made of it, here's a little taster for those who missed the concert. It's a rather heavily data reduced mp3 of "NEW WORLD ORDER".

Bryn, I am so glad to hear a little of the concert. Can you tell me the name of the piece.
Is this all you have? Thank you for posting.

t-p, "NEW WORLD ORDER" is the name of that little piece, it is one of the 42- 1 minute pieces mentioned in the message at the start of this thread. As also mentioned earlier in the thread, the whole concert was recorded. Just read through the messages on this thread if you want to investigate further. You can certainly hear the squeaky piano stool in that piece, can't you. I think the gentleman wandering around the floor above the piano can also be picked out.

I was recovering from ME and trying to rest more. I can not understand who is a composer of the piece that I listened to from autoharp concert. I could hear squeaks of the stool. I had to play on a piano with squeaky pedal. That was very unpleasant.

Well, there are two composers involved, you might say, t-p, this Dave Smith character, whose music autoharp seems to have a particular affinity with, and the composer of the "New World" symphony, which is 'subtly' alluded to.

martle, I don't seem to have had a PM from you regarding said CD-R/DVD recordable as yet. Two went out in the post this evening, and others are ready to be sent when there is next a postal collection, (probably Saturday). If you would prefer the 96/24 audio DVD version, don't forget to let me know whether DVD-R or DVD+R would be more suitable for your equipment.

Excellent! Something just appeared through the letter box this morning which is now spinning. My thanks again to the composer, the pianist and the recording engineer.
And the stamp was unfranked so I can steam it off and use it again. Woo hoo! It's always a good day when that happens.

Just back from Mr Smith's recital. Just excellent! Not being a musician, I cannot do learned musician-speak, so I won't My humble self enjoyed the 42 1 minute pieces enormously. I detected some quiet snuffles of amusement from Mr Garnett, seated to my left, at some of the, ahem, musical references to great works from the past Me, I tittered internally. And as for the final work, it was a blinder! IMHO. Congratulations to Mr Smith. Thank you for the music. Those present from r3 were trj Tinners George Garnett Bryn (doing complicated stuff with mics) The pub afterwards wasn't bad either! All in all, a jolly good evening! Among the dedicatees in attendance were John White, Gavin Bryars, Sarah Walker and others. I listened to one of the recordings on the way home. Despite Jonathan Powell's somewhat noisy meanderings found the upper floor, apparently searching through scores, he does not seem to have been captured too prominently by said mics. A delightful concert indeed. Hearty thanks to Dave Smith, and to autoharp for alerting us to the event. Hi - so sorry about the noises! I went to have a pee, since the pianist dissappeared after the 42 little pieces, and I thought there might be an interval. I didn't look at any scores, though - they probably don't have any I want. When I played there last month, Kissin DID look through scores for about 45 minutes. But he didn't put me off! I hope I didn't disturb people (sonically, or emotionally for that matter...)
