BRAVO, Eru!

An inconvenient time, I suspect.

10:20am Friday April 11th
Recital Hall (not the big one), RCM.

Beethoven Op. 110, Brahms Op. 117, Ireland Ragamuffin

A slow day at work* meant I was there.  Eru was great!

The Beethoven had plenty of poise, and some really arresting moments.  The fugue in the last movement and the passage just before the inverted fugue comes were terrific.

But the absolute highlight for me was the first of the Brahms Intermezzi.  Just wonderful.  Eru really seemed to live this music, and have an affinity for Brahms.

The Ireland was a great way to finish, and delivered with aplomb.

One of those really good concerts that inspired me to play / practise again.  Thank you, eru.

Tommo

*actually I had a lot to do, but it was all really dull and my brain ached.

Delighted that we could have an account at first hand from a board representative, too. Well done, eru, and thanks, Tommo.

Yes, thanks, Tommo. Really sorry I couldn't make it. Well done, eru!! Grin

I once played (well, kind of!) those three Brahms intermezzi myself, and love them very much.

I've never been in such a state after a concert. I was a nervous wreck, and it took me about an hour to recover! The examiners need to get a silent stopwatch - just after the first chord this really loud BEEP suddenly emanated from the further reaches of the space. Oh well.

Unpleasant memory shock about ten minutes before; just after the start of the Beethoven fugue I was going down the wrong way somehow. Never happened before. I had to start the fugue again in the concert. Sad

But I was pleased with the Brahms and Ireland. I do hate waiting for results....

I hope the results are everything you hope for, and a little bit more besides. It sounds like quite a performance, I can't help regretting that I couldn't be there.

Ah, concentrating so hard that you didn't notice the equally annoying beep just as you sat down to start the Beethoven too....

By the way, which of your colleagues was the fastest?  Wink

I got the resut today. I got 80. If I wasn't so tired I would be over the moon, I'm sure.

If that means what I think it means (i.e. what they call a 'starred first' in Cambridge), then that's fantastic, eru! I'm certainly over the moon for you - see you there in the morning when you've caught up on some sleep? Grin

Congrats, Eru!

I'm also unsure of exactly what the significance of the 80 score is , but I am powering up my Apollo-mobile anyway, in order to be able to express my full joy at the news.  Grin
