Ho Reiner.   I thought your "message" hit the spot so I've posted it with acknowledgment (to you) in the "other place".  I trust that you do not mind my somewhat presumptive action.
Cheers

Hi Soundwave!

I don't mind at all, and thank you for such kind words of support.  I fear that your posting on TOP will last around 10 minutes when R2weiler Chris gets his maws around it,  but thanks for the reposting anyhow :-)

Ho reiner.  Your "message" still exists, with some follow ups, in the "other place"  at 22'25

I've just listened to today's second instalment of Feedback. The whole piece was disappointing - Stuart Manger made no telling points, and rather pulled his punches, and it was up to Roger Bolton to ask some very direct questions to which Wright never gave a straight answer. He came across very clearly as someone who is evasive, disingenuous, and not particularly intelligent. Will Roger Wright be listening eagerly to Mixing It on Resonance, as he claimed - I doubt that!

The one point he did make elliptically was about resource - and the big question arising out of the recent changes to Radio 3 (and putting to one side the daft noise about messageboards) is whether it has the resources and the management commitment to support both live music and new music. I suspect that both have been materially diluted, but it is probably too soon to appreciate the impact yet.

Gives a whole new meaning to 'interactivity' and "sustaining" and "supporting the culture", doesn't it?
Or maybe RW thinks this is how you handle the customer base?

That's perhaps unfair to Stuart Manger - after all, his input was prerecorded and filleted for later transmission with links by another announcer, so how can we know that they broadcast exactly what he meant, any more than the pre-packaged concerts are an accurate representation of the original event? He was being filtered through not one but two intermediaries en route, and you can't pull your punches if you're not making direct contact.

For my money, I thought he did the job extremely well under the circumstances: I certainly can't imagine myself being able to get the points across any more succinctly, and I'm far from being media-unsavvy.

Thank you Stuart (DM?)

Like Ron I felt Stuart did a good job of conveying the main objections to the new regime (although I haven't followed the discussions here in detail).

I was impressed by Stuart Manger's arguments and felt that Feedback were genuinely concerned to present the MBers' outrage at what has gone on.

I thought Roger Bolton pressed him very well on the issue of the messageboards, but RW was as defensive and dismissive as he was last week. He advised us that we can discuss programmes like 'Choral Evensong' elsewhere; RB asked for clarification and RW explained that there was another R3 messageboard that somebody had set up. 'Oh, so not a BBC messageboard then?' asked RB, playing the innocent, delightfully.

No, these are Roger's toys, he only wants you to play if you follow his rules and promise not to break anything.

It's a comfort to know RW will be listening to 'Mixing It' on Resonance FM....as if.

Except, of course, that thanks to the BBC's lawyers he will now be listening to "Where's the Skill in That" on Resonance FM!

(For those that don't know, the BBC have stopped Mark and Robert using the name "Mixing It" for their resonance FM programme, claiming it as a BBC trademark)

It was interesting to hear Roger talk about this message board on today's episode of Feedback. Can it be that Roger is reading this MB because he's bored and tired of the other place? Grin

Ho!  I've just been over to the "other place".  Fosco Toadfoot (what a name) has posted a rather naughty message there.  I'm damned sure it'll get "zapped".

"I really do think that Radio 3 would benefit enormously if it had a Controller. Somebody of stature and intelligence, with honesty, dignity and true managerial skills. A sound and experienced communicator with an intense interest in and love of serious music and drama. He must also have the ability to play accountants at their own game and fight for Radio 3 as he would for life itself."

Gosh!
Cheers

Well posted Soundw....  I mean Fosco

Roger Rabbit really did talk a load of old bo**ocks re the other place today didn't he? (sorry if that's too intellectual an analysis, I really should respond more emotionally)

If you'd like to listen to what the Wabbit said, you can download an mp3 here (15 MB)

Update 17/3: I've corrected this link, so if you tried it before and found it didn't work, it should be OK now.

I agree.

It was, IMO, total bo**ocks from beginning to end.

His breathtaking "I'm right, so there" arrogance made me feel sick.

In that case I shan't bother to listen to the stupid, misguided individual on Feedback then.
