In what sense does The Wasteland claim to be 'constructive', by the way? Who are you quoting? I'm not quoting anyone. I'm a teacher with 3 university degrees, and think, criticise, and write for myself. The point I was making about The Wasteland pertains to its appraisal of society and culture in negative terms, as a time of decay and dissolution, and yet it does so with beautifully crafted poetry.

In that case 'constructive' seems not quite the right word, but thanks for the explanation. It's funny, I thought about the poem as I walked over London Bridge just after 9 this morning (not a trip I've ever done before, but surprisingly pleasant actually, and no visible signs of death's undoings ). I didn't mean to accuse you of not thinking for yourself, I just wondered why you'd put 'constructive' in quotation marks and wanted to check you weren't alluding to something Eliot himself had said about the poem.

The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley

How is the Waste Land beautifully crafted? It doesn't even rhyme.

You are basically implying you have a (superior) understanding which puts you in a privileged position of liking AB. Astounding arrogance. It's not the first time I've been accused of that, but no, I wasn't imputing to myself any kind of superiority, just particular preferences. For example. I don't understand what people find to like in the music of Benjamin Britten. However I don't go round dismissing it in what I repeat are tired and ignorant terms, because I recognise my lack of understanding for what it is. I would like to know what I have said which could be described as "religious-like feuding". What I believe in is not insulting others by describing the music they admire as gibberish. And here, amazingly, is AB together with Hugh Ragin, Ray Anderson and Marilyn Crispell playing the first nine minutes of the beautiful Composition 98, one of my favourites.

It definitely isn't jazz though.

It definitely isn't jazz though. I'm not sure I care what it 'is'. It's the best bit of Braxton I've heard (which admittedly isn't a hell of a lot). The performance energy is astounding, as is the supersensitive listening going on in that quartet. Thanks for posting that, rb. Invigorating stuff.

What a lot of c***s. This has nothing to do with Braxton, etiquette, or anything I can respect or want to read on my computer; it's just territorial sniping games. I said that, because time_is_now failed to understand the usage of quotation marks as qualifying moderation, suggesting that they always quote someone else: and I am perfectly capable of forming my own ideas and expressing them, unlike c***s here, it seems, who think they're part of some kind of Braxton elite and who collapse into snide hostility if anyone questions it.
And if the mods don't moderate irrelevant ad hominem sneering, I think their claim to keeping this place civil is about as weak as the religious-like indignation if anyone *gasp* doesn't like the little free-jazz hero-boy, and dares to say so. What a sad life, that such minor subjects provoke such stupid responses.
Here, let me descend to the level of your own stupidity for just a moment, since this is the level of interaction you are enjoying here:
What a lot of c***s. Excellent! autoharp, eh what?!
This is about as interesting as so called free jazz: stupid white noise, devoid of interesting signal, built on narcissism. So I guess the two go together and are equally about as interesting as listening to a building site.
