yep

It's interesting ter hear Steve Potts in the WSQ ~ he wasn't in it when they did the UK date on this Hendrix thing, was he? ~ I don't remember him from the jizzz£3 broadcast.

It is ver orderly, innit ~ jeez WSQ used to be bleatin' all over the shop when they started out. They did a great LP for Moers Music that i wish I still had.

There you go, a relatively conventional kinda post from King Kennytone for once.
Diggin' catchin' up on some of those Mingus sides..
AND the Max Roach / Shepp duos.

tristano does my head in in the best possible way

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGLpczTtnEM

Thanks Calum, hadn't thought to look for Tristano there! Did you mention (possibly in The Other Place) that there are a couple of his tracks you'd bequeath to posterity? Which ones?

i meant the site is well ordered!
and a treasure trove!

i would commit and commend all of Mr Tristanos recordings teleplasm and ghostly traces to posterity! The two clips on YouTube are just amazing and i meant them as a deep space capsule as examples of great human art. mind you i'm not sure about the ethics or advisability of littering far flung space with our stuff!

I found a vinyl copy of George Lewis' Homage to Charles Parker, which is spinning now, and it is really is damn good.

More forlornly, has anyone got a copy of Karyobin that they would be willing to sell, or (ahem) copy for me?

Calum

Have borrowed Universal Syncopations and am listening now, your criticism are fairly well justified.

It lacks something but is not  in the way I expected.

It's all quite "jazzy" and Garbarek is not at his New Agey worst (IMO)

BUT DeJohnette does not really challenge any of the soloists. There's a laid back vibe despite some of the music being fairly up tempo and a few of the tracks are too similar... more dynamism needed, or less politely a kick up the backside.

Better than a lot of recent ECM though, to my ears.
