I have had multiple idents in the past

"it was so that you could weave some kind of tapestry
and be surreal"

Correct.  Surreal beats being real.

But if you want to go, then so be it.

This is nice, Mr. I has paraphrased my motto

"christalmighty
as our friend above says
real life will make you quiver with disgust and fear"

Could be that the jazz posters will migrate here when Peter leaves. He may come over here himself. I think nearly all are signed up.

Dunno, burning dog, that Jass Bored is so individual, there is nothing quite like it.   It cannot  be repliicated.  Still playing Ornette, Rambling, silly sentimentalist that I am.

I hope you do drop in here occasionally mr i, I say that because I like a lot of the things you have to say about music and I respect all of them, and the jazz bored is the only thing I really miss about the old messageboards, now that the classical ones have been overrun by loudmouthed philistines.

Which reminds me that I heard some music at the Vortex last week which I liked a lot, though I thought even at the time "I don't expect mr i would think much of this": the Alan Wilkinson/Pat Thomas/John Coxon/Steve Noble quartet, and particularly Alan's playing which I appreciate more every time I hear it, a tidal wave of raw energy but still full of subtlety and structure, the group's sense of dynamic and timing was quite astonishing too, sorry for the effusion but it was one of those sets which I'll remember for a long time. There should be some footage going up on youtube soon.

Just for Anna's sake  Roooosta is Jellybaby7....got it....

Ono Babe....sad you are sad and disillussioned....you mean you weren't before???...what WAS the secret??.... re-apply it....Keep plugging in here mate we'll support you....its unlikely , very unlikely that the same kind of anarchic, creative FEEL will be supplied by this board...BUT....things change....(i'm trying not to use this phrase BUT) all things must pass.... happiness and sadness ARE just emotions (Obviously the situation is somewhat different under tyranny) .YOU HAVE A TALENT....and you need to re-group and use it....there are 1001 ways....you only need a couple of them to make time pass and be creative....do not be so despondent, I've had a lot of despair and despondent myself, enough to see that less is often more just like the ol'addage goes (sometimes a trite remark....but with a lot of mileage). Look on the bright side you could be CRASS....and you certainly are not....I'll leave there for Mo'....xx

I really do fear for the Official BBC Jass Bored now we know Peter is leaving.  I don't see any successor putting up with all the bullshit and all the crap on there with the same good humour, nor indeed anyone else who might know a thing or two about our music.

Tenor Freak....I do not know what it used to be like....but ....I have felt in the last year, except for the cat fights....that an incredible amount of info gets exchange....doubleBUT....by a small number of posters, who symultaneously have a taste for fun and highjinx.... We need to sound out what the remit of of the new HOST will be,and at what level of creative complaint and frolicks will be tolerated....its a shame isn't it....While it must be a bit difficult for newcombers to jump in to the bear garden of several people who are on the same wavelength (if not in jazz....then in sense of humour) people do do it....Richards Jazz has recently done it....I am proud of the MB....we are very self regulating....very, very little smut or some of the pedant arguments of other R3 boards....it has an incredibly high turnover of topics and posts....with 'taste for the bizarre'....

Yes indeed Roosta.  I have joined all the major jazz forums (fora?) but I only make repeat visits to the BBC.  There are too many forums run by self-appointed little dictators who remove anything resembling a proper argument.  I am thinking of one forum in particular.

The Jass Messagebored turns off a lot of readers I know, but then many of us on the Bored are turned off by conventional forums where everybody has to follow a party line or else be kicked out.  Teh Interwebs are meant to support a variety of ideas, no?  And if things get heated, it is because we are passionate about the music, in whatever form, whether it's centrifuge with his Braxton fixation, or Trevor with his fondness for 50s-60s British jazz, or Ian with obscure territory bands of the 30s.

I had an idea for a jass forum where there is no moderation other than to remove libellous postings or porn but I haven't the time to set it up and run it.  And I can't be bothered.

As Mao once remarked: "Letting a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend is the policy for promoting the progress of the arts and the sciences and a flourishing culture in our land....and then you will all agree with me or spend some quality time in a Party Re-Education Centre."

That Mao had a good sense of humour didn't he....cruel....but fair....

For me it is also the speed one can get around the board and cross-fertilise, its so easy to use....my input I'd say has been to oil the wheels of the board/boards and not get in the way of serious discussion, I have never been mod'ed,so I guess what I do is Ok....I'm not a collector or cateloger....I just listen to Coltrane onwards....and don't give a toss about Tubby, but do not dis him either....You I believe have more knowledge as to what it WAS like and I missed all the stuff when the R3 boards apparently changed....Here I'm back reading some of the administrative threads and there seems to be struggles of a different sort....but obviously a lot of these people have history going back 6 years (?)....For one reason and another (brain), JMB has been my home for 9 months, and is an important part of my life....but cyber struggles get to be concluded by the person with their finger poised over the master button....We do not seem to have an input into the process....Are their processes that we can get involved in to argue our case or is it just a matter of wait and see....Was the pogrom of the Classical boards as dirty as some seem to lay out?? <OK>

mr i do not lose heart, if they were out to get you in any way they could (as i think they were); we are out to protect your place in da bored

there are other questions that might be put concerning the unremitting attacks on TrevorCooper; why was such vitriol tolerated when AUNT BOWDLER ALGORIDDM attacked KK & Yoko so often...

da bored has shown it LISTENS INTENTLY to r3 jazz programmes, critically, demandingly and appreciatively - messin with da bored is not something they should lightly contemplate right now given the loss of audience, and loss of respect for r3....this is a media story that will not go away, small as it is, it is potent and toxic for careers.....

Tenor Freak - i share your general perceptions of jazz forums on the web and the special and desirable character of the r3 bored; but i am not sure that it deters readers form entering the fray by its 'negativity', so much as it being just daunting to join, as i recall from about three years back; yer really have to put yer neck out in the open and get over the falling axe of counter views directly and vividly expressed; it is laso daunting because much of the posting displays depth of knowledge, and often contains a depth of reference in the arts, thinking, history that can take some time to learn to savour.... it is quite simply one of the best places on the web for interactive discussion of their passion by afficionados...and mr i helped make it so

Calum, Bruce, BD et al...

I see this topic has been viewed 269 times which would be an indication that the ostrasizing of our friend (Improv...Yoko) matters. I know he was/is hurting about being singled out for a rather drab technical no-no, and his departing(?) post here confirms.

I don't think I ever agreed much with improv except the time Stan Getz's Summer Afternoon was being played and we simultaneously posted. [Even] Improv had to admit then the beauty of the playing was making him grit his teeth.

But, our divergent opinions is not the point. Improv had as much right to contribute on this here-to-fore exemplary message 'bored' as any of us.

He has been punished way beyond the scope of the alleged 'crime'.

Multiple identities?HuhHuh? Hell, what do we do every day in the form of existence we call: Life?

Just succeeded in getting logged on. Didn't work for some reason yesterday.

I think that Mr. Improv should be reinstated as he is a vital ingredient of the "Jass bored." It would be boring if everyone shared the same thoughts and opinions. Yes, Peter has moderated the board in a fair and reasonable manner and I do have concerns that his successor may not be able to reach the same high standard. Anyone who comes in must be able to appreciate the nature and uniqueness of this messageboard. It is a bit of a bear pit and contrasting opinions are not discouraged. This is exactly how debates are in real life and any attempt to restrict the surreal character of the bored should be rejected. Hell, even Geoffrey Smith of JRR appreciates it's surreal character.

 Bring back Mr. Improv now!!

yes i dread to think what the bored will become
the rest of the bbc bored is fairly dire
saturated by gobby neanderthals who seem incapable
of thinking of ideas that they dont already have themselves

the situation with the moderators is dire
and highly partial
i have many times complained about posts
attacking and harrasing trevor on the grounds of his age
or calling him very rude names with swear words
in clear contravenence of the goddam bored 'rules'
but i've always been told my complaint is not valid
whereas EVERY TIME someone complained about mine
the complaint was upheld

anyway enough griping

i gotta find somethin valid to do wit my time

first up i'll be in london next week
being king kennytone
i'm gonna see butcher and nakamura
as well as mr veronika lens and his
incredible laptop combo furt

yes i recently saw wilkinson and noble
they's ok lads innit
they been doing it forever
and they're real about it

and i mangaed to stay for the whole of their set
despite the goddam loud and full on nature of what they do

i agree they have some degree of nuance
within the genre of full blast noise style

i preferred the lovey support act though
with their windchimes and all that
