I also posted this on Computer related issues but more likely to have exposure here, where lurkers like Kenny, Richard Barrett et. al. might see.

I don't use Rapidshare. Sendspace is so much simpler.

Yes, Richard. Free usage of Rapidshare now involves visually identifying a 'cat' enmeshed on a number/letter - a choice of 4 out of 7.

For example, I am still embroiled in the Electro Music url posted herein is in Rapidshare. How to download that in Sendspace?

You can only download it from Sendspace if it was uploaded there... I was talking about uploading, sorry for the crossed line. Yes, Rapidshare is very annoying but (and this is why it isn't stupid!) you either have to put up with such irritations or do what they want you to do which is become a paid-up member.

Thank you Richard. I had looked into Send space prior to your reply and see that Uploading (only) is free. Thanks for the reply.

As to the present-day 'security' on Rapidshare.

 Possibly you haven't looked at the cats.

Or, maybe it's just because I am not a cat person...

Check out Sendspace again. It's the most popular site used here for sharing because it's free to download......

I have received the following reply from Rapidshare support, about their cats:

"Hello,

we are sorry that you got a error message when entering a Captchas.
We use Captchas to prevent automatically downloads.
Automatic downloads from Free-User decrease the download speed from our servers significantly.

Therefore we change our captchas from time to time for better safety and to provide the best possible service for our Premium and Free Users.
Our intention is to prevent automatic screen reading software and this can cause sometimes difficulties reading.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

Kindly note that even though there now are more than 4 letters and numbers in one captcha you still only have to type 4 letters and numbers in the box.
Every captcha letter/number is pictured with an animal and you only have to use the 4 letters/numbers with the cats.

The sitting animal is the cat.
The standing animal is the dog.

The problem with Send-Space is that the up-loads disappear after only a few days, whereas in the case of Rapid-Share many items "stick around" if we may use the vernacular for years.

And then there is this too to consider!

I find it easiest to identify cats by their tails; I found it very difficult at first, but seem to be able to get it right 95% of the time now without too much strain on my interpretative organs.

What's the deal with tail-less cats?  Are they mostly supposed to be that way or do people occasionally go in for the whole surgical docking (I think that's the verb)/tail-removal wassit?
