Chris Newman - The reason I am unable to live in my country as a composer is a political one Michael Finnissy - We'll get there someday - My parents' generation thought that war meant something. Christopher Trapani - Half of me is ocean, half of me is sky Four more for the 'Not actually true' list as well?

Just to be a real pedant, there's no 'that' in Finnissy's My parents' generation
Also forgot Clar Henze Barlough's Sprite the Diner (by Nib Writer) (pun on 'Spreize deine Beine breiter')

Not meaning to be a vengeful b*****d or nuffin, but there's only one 'g' in 'Schwankungen'.

Not meaning to be a vengeful b*****d or nuffin, but there's only one 'g' in 'Schwankungen'. Modified accordingly - do add a capital 'W' to 'War' as well (only other word with a capital).

Christopher Trapani - Half of me is ocean, half of me is sky Four more for the 'Not actually true' list as well? Erm, well, (1) I wouldn't presume to doubt Chris Newman's motives. (2) is by the temporal nature of its assertion always still possible, I would have thought. (3) seems quite plausible to me. As a friend of the composer I can confirm that (4) is not strictly accurate. Maybe a quarter of each.

As far as I'm concerned, three is the only ever correct number of dots. If that's not how many Nono's (admittedly rather lovely) title has then Nono got it wrong.

Roxy Music - In Every Dream Home a Heartache
good lyrics too Not a bad tune either (at least, it suits BF's voice). I didn't know that Brian Ferneyhough sings on that track.

Jamie Croft - Who is this Thatcher anyway?
Isn't that a kind of in-principle sequel to The Unanswerable Question? Best, Alistair

Erm, well, (1) I wouldn't presume to doubt Chris Newman's motives. I beg his pardon. Neither would I. I thought he did live in his own country though. Pure curiosity: where does he live now?

Chris Newman - The reason I am unable to live in my country as a composer is a political one
I don't know him personally, but I would find it hard to imagine that this would be his ONLY reason, but... Mark R. Taylor - Victorian Values
Best played on period instruments, presumably. Michael Finnissy - We'll get there someday
Fine, but it doesn't tell us where "there" is... Best, Alistair

Another great Finnissy one - False notions of progress (a piece for three oboists, each playing various types of oboe/reed instrument, and who pin parts of the Communist Manifesto onto a board during the piece).
...as a false notion of progress? Also Multiple Forms of Constraint.
If one had to fill them all in accurately, these might perhaps be representative of government bureaucracy James Dillon - East 11th St NY 10003
Now if he'd used a UK address instead, the title might just have risked infringing the Data Protection Act. Best, Alistair

John Zorn - Ingenious Ejaculation (a 23 second piece ) Shouldn't it be a piece of varying duration, depending on the "performance"? Best, Alistair
