in analogy to "Blah blah blah . . . ?" I agree that if there was any justification for ellipsis + full stop, that analogy would be it. But I still think there isn't (any justification ...). Hmm. Unless a closing bracket intervenes, of course ...

But that's not really the same. Blind to whitespace and, occasionally, capitalization, I may be, but parentheses never!

Edit: This seems like the politest point I'm likely to find at which to add that your signature's been bothering me for weeks. I don't think you ought to use a full stop if you've not used an initial capital.
Actually, the politest way would be by PM -- that's polite to the rest of us, too, since it doesn't completely re-christen this thread. The second-politest way is to start your very own pedantry thread and put all of your pedantry-related comments there. Then we can go look at them if we're interested. Or add our own.

Oh, and making it small and purple makes it no less 'polite' I was just trying to set it off from the rest of my post. (Do you mean 'no more polite', btw?) As for your other comments, I stand admonished (and remain pedantic: see other thread ). Though it's hardly the first time a thread has been temporarily distracted from its ostensible subject, nor am I the only offender. Apologies to anyone who was unduly offended, but I'm confident the thread will recover. On which subject:
How's The Gentle Harm of the Bourgeoisie for a title? Now spinning ...

I've never been sure exactly what I think of this one:
A horse, his name was Hunry Fencewaver Walkins
The title in itself is strangely haunting but I don't know if hearing the piece might spoil it!
