I should be able to make it Smiley

I am definitely available, it's just that it's my only evening in of a rather full weekend (Rheingold on the Friday, Walkure on the Sunday...)

The thought of Delirium Tremens, and in the possible environs of Covent Garden, lead me to a tentative suggestion of drinks at the Lowlander on Drury Lane.  Or Belgo (yum).

Has a venue been agreed?  I'd like to drop in if possible.

Incidentally, Lord Byron, I love Cafe Rouge moules frites too.  I've never been certain whether they were ACTUALLY that good, or whether it was just that they were once exactly what I needed after a particularly trying day.

In summary - an acquaintance had been drafted in at short notice to replace the advertised principal soprano in an opera performance at the Lowry.  I hot-footed it up to Manchester on the National Express which had some ridiculously cheap fare deal.  It ended up taking three hours to get out of London, thanks to a burst water main in Golders Green.  When I arrived in Manchester with 45 minutes to spare before the performance, I went to check into my B&B which proved to be exceptionally dodgy and at first appeared to be closed.  The B&B owner then gave me wrong instructions as to how to get to the Lowry.  Eventually I got a cab and arrived at the venue with five minutes to spare, having not eaten all day.

When I finally hit Cafe Rouge for some moules frites after the show, it seemed one of the best things I had ever tasted.

OK, back on topic now.

Eh up! What's goin' on? Will you be drinking milk stouts on Saturday? I could get me chauffeur (Mike Baldwin as was) to gi' me a lift. He tells me there aint no congestion charge on saturdays, but I'm blowed if I care (that's his problem).

Only things that put me off are talk of things like "Lord Byron" and "Cafe Rouge". It makes it all sound a bit 'oity-toity! Do we sing "God save the queen" at the beginnin' or the end?

No, it was a Thursday morning as I recall - about October 2005.  The water main was out for days, though, so it may well have been the same incident!

Anyway, about this meet.  Mort's PM'd me to say she can't come Sad  But I'm still up for it so where are we meeting?  I'm up for pub food, or a pizza, or anything really.

I were gonna suggest the Rovers Return at Penge:

27 Station Rd
London, SE25 5AH

UNTIL I discovered it were nothing other than a set of toy shops and furniture shops. Don't you have proper pubs down south?
