One must surely discern the scenario which is being enacted in this photograph without difficulty: the gentleman on the left, adorned in black, is occupying the role of Peter Grimes in the final duet of the first scene of the opera of the same name. The gentleman on the right, as indicated by the fact that his glass is somewhat fuller, prefers 'Auntie's parlour and the rum' to the impending storm that the gentleman on the left wishes to weather. It should be noted that in a variety of productions of this opera, the character here represented by the gentleman on the right has been known to resemble another character well known in the contemporary business of advertising, who promotes certain sea-caught products when coated with batter or breadcrumbs.

I don't know what you're on about Ian. It's quite clear to me that both figures in the photo constitute a deceptive "installation" deliberately contrived from minikins purchased at Covent Garden Market - we see them every week!

I hope that someday, by chance, I happen to be on that side of the Atlantic the next time one of these meet-ups takes place.  Would be terrific to put faces w/ e-identities.

Indeed.  In fact, I was going to suggest that the next one could take place in Boston.  Only a bit north of me and, you know, the airport is relatively convenient to the city center...

I know Lincolnshire quite well - Boston and the Tulip Fields - but I know of no airport there.

Also, shouldn't that be "centre"?

`And, I can report, Mort was wearing all kinds of green stuff thinking that my suggestion to that effect was serious! Gels, eh?`

I agree we can have our next reunion in Boston.

I am very impressed with Ian analysis of two ladies. It seems ladies drew more Freudian analysis than two men that are drinking beer. (At least one does and the other is drinking something too).

This two men are in deep conversation about future of classical music. There is men's bonding between them and mutial good feeling.

Two ladies are charming. One is looking at an observer and the other one got distracted. There is a bonding between them two. They feel comfortable around each other.
This is what I see, but then I am not Freud.
The two men really enjoying their drink. I take it back with beer. It looks like coke

Ian, so it remains to us, in order to 'fix' the analysis, to try to recall the identity of the object of the brunette's gaze. It's a little hazy, to be honest, but there seemed to be a fairly permanent presence on the lady's right yesterday evening. Um, distinguished... civil... urbane... glasses? A trim middle age? Wait, wait!  No, it's gone...
