This is annoying as if this had been arranged for a week later, Lynn and I would be able to go as we are at a concert in the Wigmore on the 24th of April (it's Leslie Howard playing Balakirev etc.)

The weird things that stick in the memory (when so much else refuses to). IIRC that's 'Bombadier Billy Wells' hitting the (silent) papier mache Rank Organisation gong while the sound is dear old Jimmy Blades hitting a much smaller real one. I always imagined the latter sitting behind it but, having just contemplated the matter for the first time in my life, it occurs to me that is really rather unlikely.

[Subsequently dredged up from the memory banks: Wasn't there a Spike Milligan sketch on Q5 where the 'bong' happened too early and Milligan emerged apologetically from behind in full evening dress holding a small gong? Or the huge gong broke and he was revealed sitting there? Something like that anyway.]

Anyway, we shall indeed be thinking of you and your gonk, Mr S.

 George,

Rats!! It rings a bell but ..... blast it`s gone. I wish I could give you an answer because I am in debt to you regarding a Smallfilms question a few years ago.  I still haven`t found anyone who remembers it! Personally, I think they`re in denial Grin Grin

In fact it will be a gong rather like this one:

An 60" Paiste. I didn't know until a couple of minutes ago that Paiste is an Estonian name. There you go.

I also didn't know until a couple of minutes ago that they also make an 80" model. Gawd.
