Oooh, sorry about that, George. What rotten timing! Hope the YouTube clips were enjoyed though.

Indeed. The film, wwhich I sawin 1971, was the first time I ever heard Purcell's Funeral Music for Queen Mary, in fact come to think of it, it was also the first time I'd heard Beethoven's 9th!

I've sung in it several times but the only time I've played Beethoven's 9th is in the middle of Bernd Alois Zimmermann's piece Photoptosis...

Thank you so much for posting this, oliver: it's hilarious! Grin

Anecdote time:

In 1986 the Eurovision Song Contest was won by thirteen year old Sandra Kim from Belgium. Her song was called J'aime la Vie:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdMbxdVGGkM&feature=related

Later that year (I was eight years old) a girl from my class gave a performance of that song at school. She hardly knew any French and used a lot of self-invented words. She sang

Chuppah chuppah la vie

instead of

J'aime j'aime la vie.

I got such an uncontrollable fit of laughter that my teacher told me to leave the classroom. The funny thing is that the girl had to laugh also, but the teacher was furious. Ah, the memories!

The instrumental interlude from the song reminds me a bit of the theme from St Elsewhere:

The splendid eighties!

And autoharp: I loved the Antheil robot clip! Wink

It's not a sign of a more humane and sophisticated society.
Here is one:

As a big fan of 'corpsing', I had to share this. Just watch the patient go to pieces...  Cheesy

Er, thanks John, whatever made you think I would tune into Karl Jenkins?  He may be Welsh but, a lot of people also are
