Era solo un mio sospetto

Southampton accents.

I've just realised I can speak with experience.  My partner's parents, born just post WW1, were from Southampton area, and like his elder sister spoke with a slight burr, a very gentle form of West Country accent.

Certainly when I was a boy I thought I could distinguish a Devon from a Cornish accent, presumably from exposure on the BBC West Country news.

And I'd guess you could distinguish North Devon from South, Don, too: they're quite different.
