In the light of no official statement from Radio 3 i've posted my thoughts on the demise of Mixing it here. Lots of listeners sent emails wondering why Robert and I haven't made any sort of statement. Here is what i know. Would someone please post a link to the New Music Message Board. I don't think i'd get it through the moderators.

Mark,

Welcome to the group, and many thanks for posting/linking your statement here on Mixing It.

Your many listeners will read the statement with much sadness. I rarely tuned into the show but I know many people enjoyed it.

There has been so much secrecy about the Radio 3 changes, total lack of listener consultation, and, it appears, little consultation with the affected presenters. I personally will very much miss Brian Kay and was deeply saddened on Thursday afternoon to hear his parting words, similarly with Richard Baker on Radio 2.

I'm very grateful that you have made your statement on this new forum group, born also from an incomprehensible attitude from the BBC regarding messageboards.

Thank you Mark and best wishes in your future endeavours.

Hi Mark

Thanks for that. Nothing you have said surprises me. Management? They'd f***-up a two-car funeral. New schedule? I could eat alphabetti spaghetti and s*** a better schedule!

Great show last night - I shall Listen Again until it disappears.

I've already emailed to thank you & Rob for many happy, engrossed, startled, serendipitous but seldom dull hours over the years - and to thank Philip Tagney too.

Good luck to you all.

Keep kissing those frogs! Bless you! That was me, that was, many years ago....

Hello Mark, thanks for posting that link. It's very hard to see what Roger is up to here, I must say. Anyway, many thanks for the programme and I hope you manage to find a way to spread your enthusiasms around in some other context before long.

Mark. It would appear that everybody is out shopping, hence only four replies.Good to see your account on the BBC board (for now),  I was not a Mixing It fan but I believe you have been treated abysmally. Thank you for the small insight into the mind-set of BBC management. Hope you get a lot of reaction to your posting. Very best wishes to you both.

Mark,

Thanks so much for your comments / information re Mixing It coming off air. As a long term listener I had wondered why there was no comment from the two presenters regarding the demise. I have expressed elsewhere what a loss Mixing It is to the airwaves and to Radio 3 in particular.

I would love you and Robert to present some sort of podcast, just the two of you talking about music, new releases.etc would be better than nothing at all. I know the difficulty in including music because of the copyright issues.

Whatever you do I hope that is something that might help ex-MI listeners keep informed and in touch with the musical agenda that the show covered. Please let us know somehow if you can.

Some of us I hope will continue to 'heckle' regarding MI though I suspect ultimately we are unlikely to get the program restored.

Best - Mike Miller

Thank you for  posting that link Mark, what I read absolutely appalled me.

I thought the programme last night was brilliant.  MI was one of my 'must hear' ones.  I will miss it very much.

Best wishes to you both for the future.

As I said in the welcome section just now, MI has been my favourite show for as long as it has been on, often opening up new avenues for me and influencing my development both as a listener and creative musician. I'm sure I am not alone. I drank a sad toast to the show at 11.30 last night, or drowned my sorrows depending on your point of view. Iwas very proud to have a track featured last month. A major area of creative music in this country has lost a unique outlet. Mark and Robert, and producers like Philip Tagney and Felix Carey, created a wonderfully open space where the unexpected was welcome, humour was fine, and new sounds and ideas were not in the least forbidding. Thanks are due to all of them and the rest of the production team over the years.

Well done to Jez nelson for acknowledging the importance of the show at the beginning of Jazz On 3

At last - the ugly truth. The months of speculation on R3's message board (which the Philistines are closing down!) was nearly as painful as losing the most interesting show on Radio.

I've already sent an email to the show, but thanks for 16 years of information, entertainment and education Mark. Shame the Beeb seeks to follow, rather than lead. If only BBC 6 could have mustered some committment to innovation.

I'm just glad I've found this message board.

Mark,

Thanks very much for posting that statement. It's made things a lot clearer - I really couldn't understand why the BBC - and particularly you guys - had been playing down the end of Mixing It so much. It also explains why Roger Wright couldn't be bothered to make any meaningful reponse to the Radio 4 Feedback article.

Anyway, many thanks to you guys for a great run of excellent shows. You have introduced me to so much superb new music over the years (I have just recently ordered Rosy Parlane's Jessamine CD on the strength of the 26-Jan MI show). As has been said on the Radio 3 Messageboards, the X-factor that made MI particularly compulsive was the between-music talk. Not yer brainless DJ chatter, nor a dry Radio 3 drone, this was informative and often highly entertaining discussion (come banter!).
This was truly Radio 3's hidden gem. They really don't understand what they have thrown away!

I do hope that Mixing It, or something very similar, can be resurrected in the near future. Is it OK with you guys if we continue to "heckle" the BBC re Mixing It?

Thanks again,
Dave Sherriff.

Mark

Would like to add my thanks for the programmes over the years. I haven't listened so religiously lately because I thought it would always be there wouldn't it and there was sometimes something else to do ? Shows you should never take anything for granted. The direction of BBC radio in general seems to be headed in the wrong direction currently. 6 Radio have definitely missed a trick, not to mention Mr Wright's cavalier attitude.

Anyway, thanks for providing my first hearing of Jesus' Blood on Late Junction way back when, always guaranteed to get a reaction. Good luck in your future projects.

Oops. I've just been over to the Other Side's New Music board and my mouse sort of slipped.

Never mind, I'm sure the mods will repair my indiscretion before long.

Hi Mark,

Thank you very much for your online statement regarding Mixing It.  I am sorry to hear that you were treated so insensitively by your employers.  I have to admit I was a little surprised at how little you were saying about the end of the show.  I now realize that you were restricted from making any kind of statement.  Even more troubling....

I just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed the show.  Mixing It was very unique by British standards but even more so by American standards.  I am grateful that I was able to access it each week via the internet.

Good luck in your future endeavors.  If you do end up starting something else similar, I am sure that everyone on the mailing list would like to know about it.

* I sent this via e-mail as well
