I wonder if it was a mispelling of 'hokey'? ( I refer to the spin rather than in a sexist way). Palin would be an interesting case study on how political elephantiasis warps the personality-the flipside of the american dream, leading to various forms of channelled psychosis inflicted on the public.

Is it like 'super mum' in the UK -- a hyperactive middle class female with a 4X4 who juggles job and family and always has perfect mascara?

I've just realised: Palin has appropriated the term 'hockey mom' to establish her regional credentials. Hockey (which in the USA is assumed to be ice-hockey) is a major national sport in the northern, icy states (and Canada, of course).

Wouldn't "moose mom" be more appropriate?

I've seen some of Sarah Palin's speech on the BBC news channel. Shiver. Shudder. It made my flesh creep. Smug, self-satisfied. This was just her manner - the bit I heard didn't really reveal what she thought, but we know anyway what her views are. I find the fact that so many people apparently find these views acceptable, even desirable, quite terrifying.
It is terrifying. It was a speech full of hatred; since there is of course one form of hate for Obama that the Republicans won't utter in public, this is its motivational substitute.

Just watched her speech there on youtube. It was interesting. A strong speech, I think. I'm reasonably impressed by her performance. I saw some other speeches as well. The amount of america-loving and europe-mocking was ... in some sense amusing, but also rather disconcerting. This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting, and never use the word "victory" except when he's talking about his own campaign. - Palin on Obama

I'm reasonably impressed by her performance. Thanks for the link. I found the speech absolutely chilling, it put me in mind of the film The Stepford Wives.

Indeed. Even more chilling is a suspicion that this is the true voice of much of America speaking to itself.

Thanks for the link. I found the speech absolutely chilling, it put me in mind of the film The Stepford Wives. I'm just watching Biden's election speech now. In terms of oration style, I think that Palin is stronger. Yeah. Woah, he's a bit...religious in his language ... :| (the "that's not change, that's more of the same" line is pretty catchy!) Frankly, I get just as much the willies from this as I did from the other one. Something about the general political register that creeps me out, I think. And when I got knocked down by guys bigger than me -- and this is the God's truth -- she [his mother] sent me back out and said, "Bloody their nose so you can walk down the street the next day." And that's what I did. - Biden

Exactlly the opinion one would expect from someone who thinks the human race should make itself extinct. McCain is certainly your man.

Thanks for the link. I found the speech absolutely chilling, it put me in mind of the film The Stepford Wives. I'm just watching Biden's election speech now. In terms of oration style, I think that Palin is stronger. But the style is down to coaching, inko: it's the ultimate aim of any such coaching that the style convinces quite independently of any substance contained. Stepford Wives again.
