Thanks Bryn. I've recorded it through Audacity. Although I have other recordings of Elgar 1, I've never really gotten familiar with it so I'll be able to listen to the Norrington version without worrying about authenticity or taking sides at TOP  Smiley

But Anty, you get lower audio quality with the Real Player version. Why make do with that when they keep claiming that the iPlayer version will be available for seven days after the broadcast. It's about time the presenters were permitted to say "for the next seven days, with a bit of luck, if BBCi can get its act together".

Bryn, you know I have cloth ears  Cheesy  I do agree it's frustrating that they launched the new iplayer before it could handle things, but if you just want a listen to see if you want to listen again when it gets back up and running on iplayer ....... if you follow.  Why didn't you set your timer for the live broadcast?

I did, but the iPlayer should give better audio quality than DAB, too.

Extremely good talk (IMHO) by Nalini Ghuman in 'The Essay' slot just now on the vexed question of 'Elgar and Englishness'. Well worth an i-thingy listen if you missed it.

Antheil will be delighted to hear that the Introduction and Allegro for Strings can be claimed for Wales and isn't pure Malvern after all (although Prof Ghuman was swift to cut off any thought about getting Welsh nationalist about it either).

Does anyone know how the weird business of the US withdrawing her visa ended up? Did it ever get resolved? With or without explanation? http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/17/nyregion/17musicologist.html

She’s back at Mills College. It took from August 2006 to January 2008 for the US State Department to resolve the problem. There’s no published explanation from the US government but, presumably, Prof Ghuman’s research on Elgar discovered a radical jihadist message in ‘Pomp and Circumstance’. But she’s learned her lesson and will now keep quiet about ‘The Dream of Gerontius’ being, in fact, an exhortation for Englishmen to strap suicide belts to their tweeds.

Quote
She said that she was finally allowed to reenter the U.S. as a result of an international campaign of support, which included Congresswoman Barbara Lee and her staff, senior Mills officials, and the American Musicological Society, which headed the effort and kept a webpage providing updates of her situation.
