Hi,

I am a very new member, and I have been looking at the content of this forum within google, and it has only collected 154 Pages --
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=site%3Ar3ok.myforum365.com&btnG=Search&meta=

I am wondering if the members want to encourage new membership and 'bring the forum forward' ? It certainly has a lot of potential.

I am a web developer/marketing person, and I have an idea. I have plenty of capacity on my web server. It is backed up daily. Why not get a real domain, like r3ok.co.uk and move the content to this. My designer can easily design a better forum skin, with a more 'classical feel'. This will get all the forum content indexed within google, and potentially more readers and members. I am not asking to be a moderator. The moderators will still have full control.

Any thoughts?

Hi Spatny,

Would the forum content be able to be transferred without loss of postings?

At present, after clicking anything at all, one's browser sends a message off to somewhere called www.google-analytics.com and waits for a reply. Sometimes it waits a considerable time and that is we think part of the reason for the occasional slow response. If the forum is transferred to a new site it would be advantageous and advisable to make sure that it no longer communicated with the "commercial bastards" (to coin a phrase) at google-analytics.

Hi, I can't see that being a problem ... if you have access to this forums database

Not if you've got it blocked, as I have in Firefox Wink

Ah - thank you Mr. D. We have just discovered that blocking it works in Opera too; we should have done that long ago.

Hi,

Any thoughts about this ? --

http://www.r3ok.co.uk/

This is an idea of what can be done, within 30 mins. We can have no adverts, or adverts with profits going to say the Musicians Benevolent Fund. These are just thoughts and thinking aloud

Two thoughts.

What does it benefit you?  Ever the Cynic of course.

Would an increased membership prove an onerous burden on our Moderators who do have a full and varied life beyond these MBs?

This really isn't a strictly R3 MB, it started out as such (in response to the reversioning of the original R3 MBs) but the R3 content is minimal now, in fact, for example CE or PO3 is hardly ever mentioned.  So who would the new, increased audience be aimed at?

Question 1 -- Nothing

Question 2 -- You have to ask the moderators this

Question 3 -- Well I was thinking that a more attractive, well googled indexed forum, will attract more interested visitors. However if the owner and moderators don't want this ... than fair enough. I am only giving food for thought. I am not trying to take it over. However I do feel the design of the existing forum is say 'tired' and can be improved.

Spatny, could you perhaps give us an idea  in which way the current design is 'tired' and also how you visualise an improvement? Do you have any examples of existing boards with the kind of format you are thinking of?
