We hereby nominate and propose ourself
"Sydney Cuthbert Grew" as candidate for the position of
Third Moderator and seek a seconder.
If elected we undertake:
1) to be on the whole
broad-minded and
tolerant;
2) to moderate on behalf of
all the members not only those who elected us;
3) to take steps to attract as many
new Members as possible;
4) to watch out for
bad language, if it does appear to consult the other two moderators, and if the majority of moderators agrees that it should be removed to remove it;
5) to watch out for messages containing
irrelevancies on the more serious threads, if they do appear to treat the posters thereof with sympathy, and (after consultation with the other two moderators and in accordance with the majority decision) to remove their messages to a designated and dedicated "waffle" area;
6) to be alert to any Act by a Member which might
bring the message board into disrepute, and where necessary (and again after consultation with the other two moderators and in accordance with the majority decision) to institute a remedy;
7) to seek out
desirable new features and lay-out for the message-board, investigate the feasibility of their introduction (for example the popping-up as a "tool-tip" of the first words of the message without "clicking" thereupon; the display of statistics such as the lapse of time between successive messages; the display beside their messages of Members' physical location; and many more of the same kind), and after consultation with the other two moderators put forward such feasible changes for perusal discussion and adjudication by all the active Members as a Body;
8) to
visit as a rule at least
twice daily in order to discover whether any action on our part appears to be required; and if we happen to be away or unable thus to log in to inform the other moderators in a timely manner thereof;
9)
never to become
over-excited;
10) to ensure that all contributions are
"backed up" and preserved somewhere safe and accessible so that they will not be lost if the message-board host suddenly vanishes;
11) to abide in the event that a number of ordinary Members requests a
revision of any action taken by the moderators and organises a
poll on the question by the eventual determination of that poll;
12) in the event that we wish to
cease moderating to inform thereof the other moderators so as to give them the opportunity to organise in a
timely and orderly manner the election of a replacement;
13) to abide in the event that a number of ordinary Members should
request the resignation of a moderator and organise a poll on the question by the eventual determination of that poll;
14) to
consult the pages of
Plato prior to taking definitive action if at any time we find ourselves in doubt about the most principled course thereof to be taken.
Signed:
Sydney Cuthbert Grew (this eleventh day of November in the year two thousand and seven)
