Hi All,
Just a quick question:  does anyone know of any decent CD shops or sheet music shops (secondhand or new) in Leeds?
Thanks in advance...

Not really - there's the usual HMV/Virgin, a Borders and Waterstones...nothing for sheet music as far as I know. I've only lived here 4 years though  Wink I know virtually nothing about the place! Except the pubs. I can assist on that front as required Jonathan... Grin

Thanks for that Biroc!  We're only going to do a little shopping so probably won't be too long in town!

BTW, in your opinion constitutes a good pub?

One with beer.

It can have all the beer in the world, but it's still in Leeds.

Of course I've never been to the United Kingdom let alone England let alone the North of England let alone Leeds so what do I know it might be heaven on earth, just the greatest place ever, beautiful, full of sheet music shops, and so on, and that wouldn't surprise me at all.  Or at least only a little.

Heheh, aside from Ollie's "humour" ( Wink), if you like a good old man's, good natured and friendly local, try either one of the Packhorse pubs (there's one in the centre of town and one on Woodhouse Lane, across from the uni and my local in fact...). There's a good couple of pubs for quality German lager (and decent English ale) - try North Bar (more the former) or The Reliant (both near each other, or more or less on the same road). Between these two, there is a fantastic veggie/vegan curry house called Hansas, superb! I also like the Scarbrough Hotel near the train station (took a certain Richard Barrett there as part of a pub crawl once, back in the days...). A little bit out, in Kirkstall (v near me house!) there's a pub called the West End which also does fantastic food and has a great selection of real ale, often guests that change every 2/3 weeks (or so I hear from mates - I'm a sad lager imbiber I'm afraid...!). Across the road from that is an excellent organic restaurant called The Mill Race, which does a great line in organic wine...very tasty. Hope that's of some help...for further details...JUST ASK!!! Don't do that, you'll bruise the wall.

Here, have a beer.

Cheers for the information everyone!

FWIW, I like quiet pubs where you can actually hear the conversation with the person you are talking to and drink some proper ale.  Hmm, a vegetarian curry house would suite us as my wife is a veggie!

Not any sheet music shops in Leeds really - closest one is Banks in York, but that one is quite good, nice pubs in York too... quiet ones with nice real ale  Grin

Thanks for that Animal - York is our usual haunt for shopping anyway!

There's a very, very good secondhand (sheet) music music shop on Fossgate just close to the bridge that looks like it should be in Venice  but I can't remember the name though at the moment.

Ah yes, I think a friend took me there once, but then I could never find it again when I was there by myself - memory like a sieve and no sense of direction!   Roll Eyes

If you're in Leeds, then you're also not too far from Manchester and the wonder that is Forsyths in Manchester (www.forsyths.co.uk).
And if you can't make it there yourself, you can buy things over the phone and they post them to you, plus anything they don't have they can usually track down for you, however obscure.
Plus there are many good pubs and bars in the Deansgate area of Manchester (where the shop is) so you could make a day of it Smiley

What's empirical about sound? You can't write an article about it in die Reihe, that's for sure.

There used to be an excellent CD shop in the Merrion Centre, sadly long gone.
