Thought you deserved a special welcome in this existence, especially as all I know about a previous one is that you had a good send orf... Wink

Indeed! There's nothing quite like offstage trumpets and timpani, washes of red lighting, and stuff going up in flames Smiley

(Or, in the case of the new ENO production a couple of years back, something that acted like superglue on Emilia's hand, in a dystopian office building... Ho Hum. I'm a lot happier with the stuff going up in flames).

Yes, my memories of it go back to the days of Marie Collier (and later Josephine Barstow) in the older ENO production. Wonderful stuff.

Ah! I started going to ENO seriously from 1972 - in other words a year too late to catch Marie Collier. I remember hearing the radio broadcast of Makropulos in 1971 just before she died... I loved the production with Barstow/Mackerras et al - it was stunning.

makropulos is a name that may well turn up a fair few times, but have we perchance 'met' a couple of times recently, up river? Wink

Up river eh... now I'm wracking my addled brains to think where that might be. (But I don't think there are too many makropuloses about, so I should think you're right) Smiley

Anyhow, cryptic things aside, it's nice to be here!

Welcome, Makropulos - I'm sure you'll find plenty to interest you here; lots of good Janáček discussions amongst other things.  Smiley

Not to mention software that can handle words like Janáček, unlike over at TOP...

Welcome, makropulos.

Warm greetings, makropoulos!    Smiley   Warm memories, too, of ENO in the 1970s, particularly Jo Barstow among the high definition performers.    I also saw a tour de force with Kathryn Harries as Emilia with Scottish Opera, conducted by John Mauceri, in 1993.    And we still have an elegant and witty but scary performance from Anya Silja, in her special discourse on DVD.
