Gosh I'm glad I didn't have to retire Ollie to the sock drawer. I've grown rather attached to him. Or rather he's grown rather attached to me.

In response to Michael's suggestion we tell a little bit about ourselves: I'm an English-born Australian clarinettist. I live in Köln and play mostly new classical music although I seem to have been buying up big in recorders and chalumeaus in the last little while.

And I'm bored of my story already so I'm going to say another thank you to Michael for setting this up and head off looking for R3MB threads that might usefully be continued here...

How long before we all get tired of the moving text thing?

Can I write you a chalumeau piece?  It'll continue my stretch of writing pieces for hopelessly impractical instruments.  (Next up is a piece for pedal steel for Daryl B.)

Certainly, if you like. Gosh, a bit of a rush on at the moment in the chalumeau department! Smiley

I overlooked the instruction to post here first.

I am a composer based in the cornfields of Urbana, Illinois. I have used the handle Chafing Dish before when commenting on the blogosphere, but my real name is Philipp. I am burning both candles at neither end since evolving into a Dad (Adrian Daniel *11 April 2007). I teach theory and composition here in the cornfields and compose chamber music inspired by Nicolaus of Cusa, Gertrude Stein, and Mathias Spahlinger.

Philipp
Welcome etc., although I see you've posted a lot already. I could look it up, but since I'm too lazy to right now, where abouts is Urbana?

Right next door to Champaign. Wonderful university, but in the middle of nowhere (Southern Illinois). Wink

Welcome to our humble messageboard, Philipp!

Chafing Dish, Welcome. I don't know any composers you mention in your post. I hope you can tell me and the rest of MB about them and about your interests.
I am in Ireland and I am a pianist and a teacher. I am not very good in contemporary repertoire, so everything you tell can help me a lot to know more.
English is not my native language and I make a lot of mistakes. So please ignore them.

Congratulations on becoming a father. I am glad you joined MB.

Welcome again CD (inevitable we'd end up calling you that here...). Do you still come this side of the pond from time to time? I do hope so. Congratulations on fatherhood and many thanks for reawakening my own extremely humble and not at all worthy hello thread... Wink

Chafing Dish, Welcome. I don't know any composers you mention in your post.

Only Spahlinger is a composer of those listed - highly recommended, but I'm sure Philipp will have more to say about him!

Welcome CD! As you will soon find out, we are a friendly and curious (in both senses!) bunch, and the range of topics covered on the board is startlingly broad... (as is some of the humour  Wink )

Yes, welcome CD.

And I hope you didn't take my 'Urbana on film' post the wrong way - as roslynmuse explains, some of us have unusual senses of humour.

Sense of humours.

Censes of humeurs.

Yes. Those.

PS. While you are a CD, I am simply tin.

I prefer my metal somewhat heavier.

Well, given that everyone *else* is introducing themselves here; and I've managed to get quite hooked, so I might as well, right? I'm of the younger demographic; a postgrad maths student over in Ireland with not enough time on his hands for Things Such As This Forum; but through something that I have yet to decide if I should categorize as ingenious time-management or time terribly, terribly badly-spent.  I am frightfully naughty, clearly.

This forum has helped me to improve myself in many way.  For instance, my over-dependence on conditioners has pretty much vanished these past weeks solely due to the selfless efforts of all those active on the shampoo thread.

For this and, oh, so much more, thank you, and hello!
