I always confuse Kuhlau with Kuhnau.

Does anyone not?  I was about to post about how I had a disc of Kuhlau's keyboard works with some very interesting and unusual things on it, and then remembered I was referring to this:

Wow! I'm away from my desk for a couple of hours and I return to so many gracious welcome messages.

Thank you all. Smiley

I'm quite used to forum waffle, spammers, zealots and in-fighting - I've been caught up in a situation or two myself since 2001, which is when the world of forums (or 'fora', as Tommo rightly points out) first drew me in. I shall endeavour to be always civil and appropriate in this forum, of course.

Oh yes, I wouldn't bank on me sharing too much knowledge about my namesake. I chose Kuhlau simply because it hadn't been used in any of the fora I wanted to join. Cheesy

Many thanks to you both for the warm welcome and for sparing me an instant exile in cyperspace.

I shall begin involving myself enthusiastically in discussions here as soon as my current heavy workload (and imminent house move) are out of the way.

FK

Welcome to the boards Meister Kuhlau, and good wishes at least from the resident puss with regard to the move. It seems several of the members have either recently moved house or will be doing so soon.

Don, Kitty, thank you. Smiley

The move will be stressful (as house moves are wont to be), but I shall soon have an office again - my current one became a nursery almost a year ago.

Dear Mr Kuhlau,

A very warm welcome to this message board!

Yes, I know the difference between Kuhlau and Kuhnau. Wink

The name of Johann Kuhnau always reminds me of the Kuhnau Variations by the Dutch composer Hendrik Andriessen: a ver elegant piece of music.

I'm also not a musician and I also don't work in the classical music industry but I do write, but only as a hobby. I started to collect recordings of classical music when I was 16 (I'm 30 now). I used to be very interested in music from the nineteenth and twentieth century, but in recent years I'm beginning to get more and more interested in music from the eighteenth century. I also like British music from the first half of the twentieth century (especially the "Pastoral"  tradition). I hope to find more about your blog.

Have a good time on this message board!

Best wishes,

Pim

My student is going to play Kuhlau's piece. We started it yesterday.
It is from grade 5 Associated Board.
Does it belong to spooky thread? Probably not.

He is a good student and got to grade 5 in 2 years, but I do wish that his sight reading would get better.

Hi, Pim.

Yes, it does appear we have something in common. What do you write as a hobby?

Not quite sure how to reply to the above. So I'll just say, 'Hi!'.
