Yes, welcome back, t-p! I've not been around so much either (I've been feeling a bit down) and I wasn't sure where you were, but I'm glad you're cheering up a bit now.

Had COMPLETELY not missed you at all t_i_n. You can, it seems, slip in and out completely unnoticed. Have you considered becoming an assassin? (more seriously: I hope you've been getting by ok &c.)

Ah well, see, no one even misses me when I'm not here. (It was only the first half of last week that I didn't log in at all, but I think my posting activity's been generally less.)
Yes, feeling a bit better now, thanks, incre.
As for martle and any other of our South Coast regulars, I'm hatching a vague plan to spend Friday night and Saturday in the Brighton/Hove locality, if I can find a cheap b+b at this sort of notice. If that sounds like the pretext for a r3ok seaside drinks on Friday evening then let me know! It would be nice to see some friendly faces (and even some new ones ...).

T-I-N. May be it is normal to feel a little down at the end of academic year. I usually feel down between musical projects. I like the buzz (preparation and the concert at the end). I am hoping for a concert with a violinist, but to organize a piano and the venue is not easy here. To rent a piano is expensive. I hope he can find sponsors. Because of that difficulty I am between hope and despair. The only antidote to all of that is not to care so much. At the end my grandmother told me several times not to care and leave things as they are (accept things the way they are going). I think now that little depends on us and chance plays major part in our lives.
I am thinking a lot about it lately. I am here by chance (because there was an opening on the department and he applied and was offered position) and I started accompany and teach. But I have no control over who is going to need an accompanist. Things sort of happen. People appear from thin air and they dissapear into it as well.
I believe in destiny and things working out the way they should. All of it in order to say that one should not worry. Things usually work the best themselves.

Anyone else having problems with the 'new replies' and 'unread posts' links? They seem to only work for me after I click on refresh. Or else I get a new reply notification and get to the thread to find there isn't - until I click refresh. Hope it isn't to do with the new mobile phone software I loaded this afternoon...

Grump, grump, rant!
Apparently there has been a sighting of Madeleine McCann in Belgium which the police are taking "very seriously". A woman spotted who she thought was the child and dashed off to phone the police. When she came back they'd gone.
If it was in a public place like a restaurant and I was absolutely convinced that she was indeed Madeleine, I'm afraid I'd go and hold the child whilst I made the call. I know people are afraid it will be a case of mistaken identity, but better that than she keep being dragged off again and taken to yet another country! You can always apologise afterwards and I'm sure that everyone would understand in the circumstances - heavens above - she couldn't be more distinctive with that keyhole iris for a start.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
The police have removed a drink from the table that the little girl was drinking from for analysis anyway, so hopefully they'll find that they're on the right track this time after DNA analysis.

Unless they could see the eye, it would be almost impossible for members of the public to identify her. Thousands of English four-year-olds look much like her.

I agree Mary. I've seen very many look-alikes. However if the woman was convinced enough to go and ring the police, she must have felt pretty sure. I'd have the bottle to go over and have a good look in the eyes if I thought there was a possibility it was her - and if it turned out to be the case, I'd be staying put while I called for assistance. It really wouldn't matter if a mistake was made. Better that, than lose the trail yet again.

http://www.findmadeleine.com/She has green eyes as well so that's unusual. There are coloured contact lenses they can use to change eye colour but these would not be easy to use on a child. She looks like a feisty little girl anyway so even the question "Are you Madeleine?" could be tried. She may be far too scared to co-operate but worth a try. Much depends on what's been happening to her all this time. All the same, she is 4 and she does know who she is.
