That reminds me: richard - did you ever upgrade to OS X?
My laptop is physically in need of replacement but I can't really afford it. Why isn't there a service when you can get a new case and keep the old innards?
Forget laptops, hh, if someone could provide that service for bodies they'd rule the world!

Not exactly. I bought a new laptop last year (just pre-Intel, for reasons of software availability) which of course already had it, keeping for certain other purposes the old black G3 (which died completely just before a concert in Huddersfield necessitating my borrowing someone else's - I think it was the ridiculously flimsy cable from the power supply to the computer) and the titanium G4 (which I hadn't taken to Huddersfield because its screen hinges have broken, the screen is only hanging by a few thin wires and needs to be propped up when it's open, but which, pressed back into service, malfunctioned anyway during a FURT performance three days ago). Thinking about it, that all means I have some serious computer-related grumping to do, the only problem being I don't really have time to do it. Apart from

The discussion on accents has been split away to a new location. (The Accents Thread.)

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Well, what a horrible weekend. So dark both days lights have had to be on. Gales roaring, rain lashing down. I am infested with field mice, the little buglars. I have only £1.79 credit on my mobile. I have just opened my bank statement. And tomorrow is Monday - and work Only highspot of the weekend was Mefistofele dvd.

Antheil the Termite Lover, It is tough with mice and work and the credit low, but it is December and soon you will have a break.
We had a little sun for 10 min, but the rest of the day rain and wind, but it is nice inside. The worse thing is to anticipate something not pleasant, but one moment at a time is not too bad.

Anna, It has been pretty foul in the weather department and I only live in the Soft South! I make it a principle never to open bank statements at the weekend. Aside from which ,the beggers have no business sending them out in time to collide with a weekend. Bluddy nerve!

It's been extraordinarily vile weather most of the day, but not the bit when I was out!
My garden waste bin is so full that I can't get the lid to stay down in the howling wind, and at the moment rain is pouring into it. "They" will probably refuse to empty it.
As t-p says, though, it is cosy inside - good internet weather.

I like it here in grumpy room. Most of my friends are very competative and most of the time are trying to prove that their lives are better than mine, they travel more, have better husbands. Mary Chambers, Did you ever had an incident that they refuse to empty a bin? It will work out one way or another.

And even when the weather's bad, as long as it's not too bad it can still be worth taking a walk down the beach...

Stunning photo Ron, I do miss living by the sea instead of this muddy, dank countryside. Makes me feel like this

Ron - stunning photos as ever. Beaches in the rain and wind are rather romantic, but cities are horrible. Mary Chambers, Did you ever had an incident that they refuse to empty a bin? It will work out one way or another.
No, but I've had stickers on them threatening to refuse, if I don't stop putting too much/wrong garden stuff in them. My garden is full of trees, ivy, bushes etc that have to be pruned or cut back, so there are a lot of branches. Too big branches= angry council workers!

If one is in good disposition than there is no bad weather. It is absolutely stunning picture really. Mary Chambers, some times I have to stretch putting things in the bin. I feed it a little at a time, I can not say I like it, but what can I do. It would be nice to put bins in garage diring rain if they don't close. But since I have no garage my bins are outside. My mother always says: this will also pass and not to worry.
