Reiner, I am sorry to hear about the fire in the fire. The most important thing is not to get too disappointed. You may get another chance.

Help! I'm drowning in numbers! Why is it that whenever something tuning-related comes into my head I then have to spend days wrestling with frequencies? Can it be because I'm not as clever as I think I am?

I don't see how you got to the second question from the first.

I don't see how you got to the second question from the first. Well it's not necessarily logical - this is me we're discussing after all. But... It's the fact that I come up with a reasonably simple idea, and then it takes me days rather than minutes to work out the correct frequencies. My conceptual brain is faster and gets more girls than my numerical brain which frequently has to take time out to face the corner with a special hat on.

Okay, right. You enjoy the slog all the same though, I hope? Sometimes it takes more effort to calculate something than to figure out what one should be calculating, sometimes its the other way around (I have a familiarity with both ). I'm not sure if either is preferable: one can't be too picky when it comes to one's mode of artistic creation waffle waffle waffle

Insommnia came back. Had a really bad day at work. Just really fed up. And it's only Tuesday. Pah.

I don't know exactly what to say, except that I hope things get better again pretty sharpish. In my experience, when I'm sleeping well, work is better and I tend to feel better in myself generally.

Jonathan, I really sympathise, although it's something that only troubles me if I have to be up really early in the morning for travelling. A little stroll in the evening can sometimes help, so that the body and mind have a chance to wind down....

We used to have an insomnia thread, didn't we? No need really, when we can grumpily rant about it. Much sympathy, Jonathan, from a fellow sufferer. I've never really found the answer. I'm much worse when I've got something important on the next day, so perhaps one answer is to do nothing! Not really an option when you're working, and not a recipe for an interesting life if you're retired, like me. So I suppose we just have to put up with it.

Is there a thread for those who can't stay awake? I have the opposite of insomnia - I never seem to have enough sleep. I need 8 hours, I like 10 and an afternoon nap if I could ever get it.
It must be truly awful not to be able to sleep and to never wake up feeling rested or refreshed. You have my deepest sympathy.

I often have trouble getting to sleep, usually when there's something on my mind, thoughts racing around. My wife getting to sleep before me = her snoring does not help and I often end up downstairs lying on the leather couch in my dressing gown. It's odd that I can fall asleep easy with the TV on but often not when I'm lying in darkness, and I've never found music easy to sleep with (though not much opportunity to try that, having been married 26 years to someone with very different music tastes).
Oh and an evening stroll in my neighbourhood is far from relaxing, too much traffic, pubs and nearby supermarket and nearby motorway mean it's busy and never dark round here.

Good heavens, we have 36 "guests" at the moment! All the spammers must become active at this time of day. Is it Americans in the evening or Chinese in the early morning?

Can anyone recommend a decent rogue anti-spyware remover? I've inadvertently downloaded (and paid for) a rogue programme and I can't now remove it from my computer.

Try Spyware Doctor, Milly; it's pretty good at picking up most things. If you download Windows Live (do you have a PC or Mac?) you can get it free as part of the package.
