Well honestly!! After having been told twice by BT that there would be no charge for my hub, a bill for £80 thumped through the letterbox this morning. The service isn't even operational yet! I haven't got the oopmph to challenge them about it today, it can wait until Monday. I am now led to the conclusion that communications companies specialise in employing complete plonkers Do you have that 'no charge' specified in print, Mort? FWIW, they don't necessarily specialise in employing plonkers, but conditions and the situation of having to deal continuously with customers fraught with complaints ensure that those who have a bit of nous tend to find themselves something better elsewhere ASAP, leaving the less able behind: their percentage rises....

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Not quite such a grump about BT as yours Mort, but I'm signed up to paperless billing with them - so I've just received something through the post telling me I now get free calls at weekends, line rental's going up etc! Very tempted to email them and ask why they couldn't email this info.

Whenever I go to our local shop at the weekend(mainly), talk about twats!! You go to the till and the girl just puts the gods through etc, then holds out her hand without saying by your leave or any small banter, and expects you to hand over your hard earned money, puts the money in the till and thats it!! I had a good mind to write to the company concerned about how their staff should improve on their customer relations skills!!!

Oh no! I've forgotten to send my mum a card. Again! I've messed this up for the last three years at least. All my siblings get it right but for some reason I always fail.

I took delivery earlier this week of a steam cleaner so that I could give the carpets a deep down blitz and get rid of crud from the outside world that gets stepped over them. It's a pretty simple appliance, no high tech mind boggling detail involved. Will it produce steam? No. I have gone over and over the brochure to see if there's anything that I have missed. I have practically carried out an autopsy on the machine to see if there's a hidden button that I should have pressed. Nothing. I have a horrible suspicion that it's just plain faulty and will have to go back. Sigh. I only wanted to clean the carpets. What I wouldn't give to have the wooden floors from my previous home. Sob.

Oh no! I've forgotten to send my mum a card. Again! Too much time spent on this forum could be to blame this time, hh Indeed it was for a family-neglect reason that C Dish left us, was it not? In fact I had a C Dish moment last week and very much cut down my time here, ignoring all the quizzes and a lot more. My moment occurred when the desktop crashed last week. I wasn't on here at the time but the crash could mean a lot of recent family photos are lost, and some of my business accounts may have gone 2 months out of date. I told myself that it was irresponsible to spend so much time surfing here instead of backing up family stuff John W

Too much time spent on this forum could be to blame this time, hh I don't think so John. I actually think that it's because a lot of people are surrounded by the apparatus of family life (children, wives, schools, etc.) that mean that dates like this are at the forefront of their mind. Also, because family is such a long way away, it isn't immediately obvious to me if I forget. Both of these aren't really valid excuses because there are plenty of people in the same boat who remember their mother every year and send a card on time, but because my life is so much centred around my teaching at the moment with very little socialising with human beings from outside my institution (and therefore shop talk tends to dominate), my posting here is partly one of the only ways I feel like I keep sane! It's also the only reason I knew I'd forgotten today!

It's also the only reason I knew I'd forgotten today!
Ha ha, uses of this forum, number 14: tells you too late that you've forgotten something important We should use the forum calendar more, put in reminders four day before dates My mum passed away a long time ago but I'm dutifully bound to get a card 'To my wonderful life on Mother's Day....' and have my pedantic daughter to remind me I get feelings of isolation sometimes too, even though I have a wife and two grown-up children here. The family in Scotland seem more and more distant now, since I left full employment a lot of socialising has gone, and even when opportunities do arise I tend to let them go if a lot of travelling is involved. grump grump grump
