Now that is what I call a proper grumpy rant. Don't forget - no toothpaste in the hand luggage! (Actually I always do that and they've NEVER NOTICED.)

The wee tubes you can buy from places like Superdrug are acceptable, r, and also weigh less. If they're in the plastic bag, there's no issue.

O, Jonathan, I don't know what is the matter, and its not my business. I can only say I'm sorry. That's the trouble with a joky thread like this - there are real problems and difficulties and each of us will have different appropriate ways of dealing with them. But counting them as a grump is not the thing.
I hope you can manage day to day.
Best wishes. Don B.

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

I'm feeling grumpy because of the number of CDs I'm finding which have suffered from CD rot due to the PDO problem - see this thread and Hyperion's description of the problem. Most of them are on labels which no longer exist so there's no way of getting them replaced. The problem existed from 1988 to 1993 and this was a period when I bought lots of CDs so I suppose it's not surprising that I've got quite a few that are affected. A word of warning: although it's usually referred to as "bronzing" I've found some CDs that look OK and I've only found out they're affected by playing them.

Why can't I sleep? Awake at 5 am again today. Not a major thing, I know, but it does get me down. Medics don't think it does any harm, but I can't believe that. It must have some physical effect, surely? It certainly has a mental one.

I think I know how you feel, Mary. Right now I have different problem: I can not wake up, but I had periods when I would wakeup at 5. Some times I was able to talk myself into sleep by thinking that everything in nature is calm and peaceful. Right now I am in Larikin mode of detached misery (if nothing helps).
Some people can take a nap during the day. Can you take a nap to refresh yourself?

Hello, t-p! Nice to hear from you. I suspect you are going through quite a bad patch at the moment. I suppose things will improve for all of us. I'm not really depressed, just very, very tired.
I have never, ever, been able to sleep during the day. I could lie down for a bit - at least I have freedom to do that - but I wouldn't sleep.

Bad luck, BBM. Hope it clears up quick-style. Daytime sleep: my brother is one of those lucky/weird people who can fall asleep at will. I've been with him when he's driving, and he'll say 'Just got to sleep for ten minutes', pull over, then literally do that: close his eyes, sleep (proper sleep, too) and wake up exactly ten minutes later. I've even seen him do it in a noisy cafe. I wonder if it's got anything to do with having hyper-active children.

I also know a few people that can take a nap in a car at lunch time. Or I know someone who would fall asleep in a bus or underground if they were going to the end of the line. martle, your brother is probably so tired from his children and everything that he can fall asleep right away. I remember that after our flight from Canada to UK we were falling asleep on a train too. If one is very tired then it is impossible to resist the nature. brassmaestro, do you know what trigers your astma? My best wishes to you. Some times there is nothing better to do, but wait until it will get better.
