Or I know someone who would fall asleep in a bus or underground if they were going to the end of the line.

Oh, believe me, some of us stack zzzzs on the London-Brighton line on an almost daily basis ...

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

I'm one of those people who can drop off almost anywhere eg in a concert Angry If I'm going to a concert, I usually try to have a nap beforehand, otherwise I'm bound to find my eyes closing in the middle of something which I really want to hear. In fact it seems to have little to do with how much sleep I've actually had.

Like martle's brother, I've also pulled off the road when I'm driving and had 10 minutes zz sitting in the driver's seat.

It's also nothing to do with age - when I was in my early 20s and working at County Hall in central London, I often had a lunchtime nap in one of the armchairs in the employees' rest room. No digital wristwatch with an alarm in those days so I'm not sure how I used to control how long I slept for.

Obviously you're not alone in that habit, Andy.

What I have just listened to on LA, was this afternoon's performance of American Rounds by Martin Butler,
Martle's not around is he? Perhaps it's safe to confess here that I fell asleep listening to it... Roll Eyes So I'd better LA too!

Jet lag takes some beating in the tiredness stakes. I remember being at a Muddy Waters concert in New Orleans at 2.00 am local while my body was still on London time, with the result that I fell fast asleep.

Me and MrsBBM, went to the Brass Day last year, at the Proms. My wife head a migraine coming up before hand, so she dosed herself up with appropriate medication. More or less as soon as the RAH steawrds had shut the door to the concert hall, she started to fall asleep. I heard a bit of snoring too!! Then I relaised it was my wife!! So I nudged her, she woke, with Black Dyke Band and Grimethorpe playing combined!!

Bloomin' heck. Asthma yet again. I am really fed up with it this time!!!! I dont feel particularly good today at all!! Grr!!
I got totally alergic over the weekend, when I attended a farm-theme party, which featured a lot of hay all over the place.  I was still recovering yesterday, but seem to be okay today.  It was an enjoyable party, and quite inspiring on the whole, so I don't regret going, but yeah.

It's a horses' head in the morning isnt it Inky Wink  If I may speak on her behoof, Anty and I have seperately had odd reactions to BST, sleep patterns all over the shop but suddenly ok anyway. Never used to bother me, baffling. On the National Distress coach the other day at 5am , young persons ranting down mobiles , cultural-revolution style` denounciations being rehearsed ; and down the Old Kent Road, fevered Romanian cheese-twisting and Nigerian Heavy Metal with Chicken obligato- so perhaps a more general phenomenon?

My problem is I can nod off at my desk or in front of TV, but when lying down in a warm bed I sometimes find it difficult, until 8.00am  Huh

A grump just in the hope that moaning about it here will make me less annoyed about it.

Mitsuko Uchida's concert in the RFH last night. She did her bit by playing more wonderfully than is humanly possible. (IMHO, that is. For all I know it was the worst sort of commodified 'Harvey Nichols' Schumann but it sounded fine to me). Almost completely buggered up by a spectacularly offensive cougher (Schubert slow movement) and a complete wanker yawning ostentatiously and dropping a plastic cup noisily during the near silent final moments of Kurtag's tiny Play with Infinity. Grump, grump, grump, not to mention murderous thoughts.

Oh, I know it isn't the worst thing in the world but it's just so unnecessary and so bluddy rude. How on earth do performers cope with this?

Er, thank you for letting me share. I feel marginally better now.

What's worrying George is that you/I actually want to do something really horrible to these people which makes YOU/I feel guilty Sad When they're the ones who should be feeling guilty for ruining it for many others.

Different genre, but similar intentionally audible whisperings and a '...Don't give up the day job' heckle to an affectionate impersonation of Lord Buckley (renderer of fairy tales, bardic bits etc in hepcatspeak) by Kurt  Elling, master of jazz singing,at Barbican a few months back. The acoustics` ther and at rfh don't help the problem. It seems in your egregious experience too an attempt by bores to look cool in a teenage sense of cynical and ironic. This sort of thing caused Charles Aznavour to retire, as he`explicitly said. I hope the sublime bits of Uschida aren't entirely drowned out -I suspect her subtle power will be there for you.
