I prefer to see it as 'playing along with the joke'.
But then I would say that wouldn't I?

What's a Victor Meldrew?
An incredulous Scotsman, old before his time, now resident in England, apparently, r.

I suppose it's fun for kids but I don't really see the point of it when you're an adult.  It's all a bit well...pointless.  I know the local zoo gets loads of calls for Mr. C. Lion every year but I'm sure they don't think it's funny any more.  There's been a fiasco in New Zealand because a Foo Fighters gig was advertised on the radio.  The prankster thought only a few would turn up and they would play one of their tracks on a turntable as a joke.  However, apparently thousands of people have booked the day off work and booked flights over.  The radio station panicked and back-tracked but people have lost their jobs because of it and it's just caused a load of disappointment.

Perhaps I'm getting old.  Sad

My positive note - my new credit card arrived this afternoon, and I bought some coffee beans with it and managed to remember the new PIN number.

Positive, eh???

That is indeed positive (both about the credit card a) that you realised that it was happening and b) that you now have a new one and about the coffee beans)!
My rant: I have too much hair and I'm growing a beard.
Positive: Both are easy to remedy. I'll have my hair cut in Durham tomorrow (I'm one of those people that's slow to adapt - I will eventually have a haircut in Edinburgh...) and I'll have a shave before I leave for work in the morning. I know I'll feel a lot better then and a little less like:

My rant: My bus card has been playing up ever since I started storing it in my wallet rather than my back pocket (I thought that it would fare (no pun intended) better there, but apparently not...). It completely gave up on Thursday despite the fact that I'm paying money for it, so I've had to pay at least £3 that I've already paid (in a sense).
Positive: My aim is to go to the shop tomorrow morning before going to work. Should be easy to sort out.

It isn't really a grumpy old rant with those positive bits though, is it? It's more like a mildly-stressed problem-solving rumination.

I agree. I vote we abolish Tommo's initial suggestion and go for the blackest, grumpiest, ranting and world-loathing degree of cussedness possible, no holds barred, no prisoners taken and positivity banished to the darkest regions of the earth, where (on this thread at leat) it deserves to rot and have its entrails pecked and devoured by Satan's grim birds of abject destruction.

Just my opinion, of course.

Grrr, why does packing never get any easier or quicker no matter how many times I've done it?

I'd rather be sleeping.

Grrr.
