and noticed not only that the woman next to me did have earphones on but also that it was clear she was listening to the SAME RADIO STATION as that coming from the speakers. Not for the first time the Barrett ears, naked or with their ear-cosies on, have me in awe. How could you tell? I haven't been able to conduct an experiment but what would have been the audible difference between her listening to Kiss MFFM and having her ear-thingies in in an attempt to block out the noise? As to what to make of it, I think I would have assumed it meant "NO! DON'T EVEN THINK OF TALKING TO ME."

the Barrett ears have nothing House of Usher about them, I can assure you - it was just the "tssk tssk" upper frequencies (often audible to the person next to the earphone-wearer, as being a frequent train-user you must be aware!) being exactly in sync with the speakers over the course of several songs which caused my ears to smell a rat. DON'T EVEN THINK OF TALKING TO ME. Ah yes, the camaraderie for which East London is justly famed.

Like George, I am speechless with admiration at wondrous bounties that the gods have heaped upon the Barrett ears. They can multi-task!

Gym? What's a gym? Surely, you of all people should remember Fred and Sheila (and their loyal companion), Andy?

Gosh that link brings it all back to me Kitty. I did quite a bit of 6502 assembler programming for the BBC micro, I even extended the built-in assembler, but I don't really remember FRED, JIM and SHEILA. OSBYTE rings lots of bells though. I've still got my BBC Micro up in the loft plus the cassettes that I used to load programs from (I didn't have a floppy drive). Those were the days when I used to waste hours messing around on the computer whereas these days....................

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !
I was trying to enjoy the final concert of the St Endellion Summer Festival on Friday evening, when a plump boy of about 15 started coughing in the middle of the Serenade for Tenor, Horn etc....and then carried on coughing throughout the entire evening, admittedly not so audible through the Sea Symphony, as it is sooooo loud.
All his adoring Mother could say was " It's not just you, Darling" when someone else coughed further back.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr !
Even worse is that now I'm bliddy well starting to cough!!!!!!!!!!! So not content to ruin an otherwise fab evening, he has also spread his germs to (probably not just) ME !!!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!

Ahhh... (wistful look) I still use the programs I wrote on mine, though they've been augmented and ported a few times since then.
Grr I recently lost several folders with BASIC programs in them, having erased them (w/o backup versions) from my USB device. Many of them were useless and thus time-consuming, some others can be easily reproduced, but still others I would never be able to re-create. My composing will never be the same.

Poor Turfan Fragment. I am so sorry. I can imagine how you feel.
On the other hand may be it is not as bad as you think. The loss of something is an opportunity. May be you will get a new program and composing will be even better with the other program.

Ah; I've lost plenty of stuff in various drive-erasings as well.
