My composing will never be the same.
You wanted to repeat yourself for the rest of your life? I'm sorry you lost that opportunity.

Flippancy withdrawn. Grumpy empathy substituted.
I need a cigarette.

I've had that precise feeling quite a lot over the last six months. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. I have always thought it was a really bad idea. But somehow I have the feeling I'm missing a cigarette in my life. I'm going to stop right there and eat a chocolate mousse.

I've been feeling vaguely offended all day over nothing at all really (or rather several things). Probably related to something totally different, namely that I haven't done any work today.

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Here are clouds with silver lining. The estate agent will not forget keys tomorrow. Or may be it is a message that this place is not for you and there is a better place going to be ready.

Oh Fffffffffffffflippinn' Eck. Roof's still leaking after last night's rain, still no hot water, the washing machine has just emptied filthy water all over the floor and in my efforts to unblock the outflow to which it is connected I seem to have upset one of the pipe joints so that it is now pouring water from the sink too. Why doesn't water like me? What have I ever done to it? I suppose according to homeopaths the stuff has a long memory but bearing grudges? But am I downhearted? Well, if pressed, I would have to admit ... (Although Ted R's Less Illuminations has cheered me up a bit )

Perhaps you could collect it all and sell it to Thames Water, GG. (I trust you're not hygroscopic.)

Oh dear oh dear oh dear, George, that is a very disheartening business. You surely need professional help, and urgently.

No, I love the stuff, Ron. And profoundly grateful to have access to it. I'd just prefer it to keep in its allotted channels.
I'm just waiting for the bed to spring a leak next.

Yes, r: I should have been more serious in my reply. It's not a pleasant situation to be in at all. Hasn't someone already had a go at the roof, GG? Surely their work would be guaranteed?

Ooops, just looked up 'hygroscopic'. I think I'm perhaps more deliquescent by temperament.
The roof is a long story, Ron, which I won't trouble busy Members with but Third Man With Ladder should be coming to do a more extensive job next week than Second Man With Ladder did. Hot Water Man seems to have deserted me at the moment though.
It's all right, I do realise these are only 'these things are sent to try us' stuff. Posting about them here and having a good Grrrrr just makes them more copable with.

Ooooh! Do you have a water bed George? A friend of mine had one and when his sprung a leak, he was frantically trying to seal it with a puncture repair kit.

If it's any consolation, I've had no hot water since Friday. I'm coping, although I think I shall need to visit the gym this afternoon for a shower of reasonable temperature. Still not entirely sure whether my landlord's in Italy or Marble Arch: finding that out seems to be the first step towards a solution. (Solution ... geddit? Oh, never mind ... ) I suspect this is a ploy by those higher powers that would deprive me of a broadband connection, so that I'll be happy enough when the heating returns not to keep complaining about internetlessness.
