Thankyou everyone,I love you all. All this serenading has brought on an attack of the vapours, and I have taken to the chaise longue. Smelling salts please, doctor. <limp wrist on forehead emocion> I feel very honoured to have received THREE kisses from George, how gorgeous! I have got over the hegehog incident now, thankyou. x Jan x

FYI; LEYSTER, Judith Dutch paintress (b. 1609, Haarlem, d. 1660, Heemstede)
Dutch painter of genre scenes, portraits, and still-life, probably a pupil of Frans Hals in Haarlem, where she spent most of her career (she also worked in Amsterdam). In 1636 she married Jan Miense Molenaer, with whom she shared a studio, using the same models and props. Leyster was one of Hals's best followers and her work has sometimes passed as his, an example being the Lute Player in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Her monogram includes a star, a play on 'Ley/ster' (lode star). The similarity to the style of Frans Hals was the first thing that struck me although I don't think the scans do justice to the colours. I believe many Dutch painters of the period painted as a secondary career (or perhaps supported themselves with a secondary career while painting).

The fog....
It's rolling in as off the sea. But there's not a coast line that near to the house and it doesn't smell right to be a sea mist.
It rather brings down the mood. Time for some music by which to cook...

Thank you Kitty, Judith Leyster could be with us on board because she obviously loved music. There are many paintings of musicians by her. I can grumble that I don't know enough about anything. We had no fog today. I planted two berry bushes and I am tired from digging two halls. One is a black currant bush and one is gooseberry bush. I also planted some herbs. I will grumble is they will not survive. I am off to another room for now.

"Admire" is what you won't be doing unfortunately. Still never mind it's highlighted the sand problem. It's in the local rag here but I'm not going to say which nationals it might appear in, in case they change their minds and don't use it. It is a totally embarrassing picture. I'm pulling a face, my hair is blowing all over the place and the photographer made me put my leg up on a heap of sand to show how deep it was....scary!

Kate Bush used to live next door (albeit half a mile away) to me in Kent years ago, tho I never caught sight of her Granny. When she moved away our cat went too, we believe. She obviously had more expensive Kit-e-Kat than we did...cats are so naughty. Millie, how could it be that we could miss out on your moment of fame ? We are your friends - please post the link of the newspaper when poss. x Jan x

Thanks Jan, but they may decide it's yesterdays news after all the coverage a couple of weeks ago by the media and on tv. If it is published, I might let you know - but it really is an AWFUL picture!

I am Moaning Minnie again After finding that one of the cats had done the unthinkable on one of the kitchen counters I have laid strips of masking tape to make walking on the affected surfaces awkward. While I was doing that I was summoned by a [ CRASH]-Yell! combination to find that two boxes of books had been knocked off the shelf in the bedroom, and the glass in a picture frame broken. I love cats. I really do. But not in bulk.
