I probably shoudn't do this, but oh well.

My Mum had a stroke last night. She had her 80th birthday on the 5th. We are close, such that close seems ... inadequate beyond inadequacy.
I am sorry to hear this SH. I remember how difficult it was for my Dad when he first realized he would no longer be able to play the piano. As everyone else has already emphasized, be patient for both of you, and be as supportive as you know you can be. You will find you have resources in yourself to cope with this even if you have to hunt for them sometimes.
And when feelings have settled a bit, consider that often, when we are confronted with circumstances that we haven't encountered before, even in imagination, we don't know how to react, so just continue like a train on a track (sorry! unfortunate metaphor!). I hope your cousin will show a bit more consideration once he has had time to review the situation.

That is very, very true. I can think of occasions when I've done that myself.

Why suddenly do Youtube videos keep stopping every 3 seconds?  It's infuriating!  Is there anything I can do or is it their end?  Angry

Do you have a Belkin wireless router?  If so this is a common problem, to do with the buffering in the router itself.  Mine does it intermittently, and I keep promising myself to replace it but never quite get round to it.

The gas went off this afternoon and now I've got it back on, there is a red light showing on the boiler. This happened once before and we were without gas for a few days before an engineer who'd happened to call by for something else sorted it out (I think there was another problem with the boiler at the same time), and I was pretty sure he'd said that if it happened again, all we needed to do was press the black button next to the red light. But I've tried, and it doesn't want to be pressed. Undecided

The red light seems to be described in the manual as a 'lock-out light'. There's no clear explanation of the button next to it, but closer investigation with a screwdriver has indicated that the black button doesn't push in at all, but is a screw-cap. Unscrewing it reveals a small red button underneath, but I can't seem to push that one in either.

Any ideas??? The boiler is a Biasi, model number 24 S.

The one I'm thinking of looks like this:

The Belkin brand has quite a bad reputation for buffering problems - I wish I'd known before I bought it.  Mine seems to right itself in the end, left to its own devices.

Oh bugler, bugler, bugler! The door has fallen off the washing machine Angry Angry I just know there's going to be a problem getting a new one (machine, not door. The door's had it). The machine is an odd size, not to mention pretty old, and I suspect that my landlord built the kitchen around the machine Roll Eyes When there was a problem a few years ago the Agent said that machines  weren't made in that size anymore.

In the meantime, no washing. Fume, mutter, growl.

Oh no!!  Sad  Poor you Mort.  I hate it when things like that happen.

I'm sure it won't be as difficult as it seems at the moment - you'll find something.  I went both fridge and washing machine shopping with a tape measure.  My current machine went in its slot - just about - but I'm not sure it'll come out again very easily.  Smiley

Sympathies though.  Kiss

Yes, great sympathies. Horrible domestic machinery. I hate it, particularly when it goes wrong. Who wants to waste time shopping for replacements?

My hands are freezing - it's so cold in the room where the piano is.  I can hardly type.  Roll on summer.

That's just it though, isn't it? They don't stick to their own devices from what I've heard. They want to talk to anything that will listen, even passing laptops. I shudder to think what they might find to discuss.
