Thank you all Send good vibes out to Stuart ,his wife and their wee one in a North London hospice . And if there's any to spare for the nurses and docs .... You're all stars! Oh Mort - what a nightmare. I can't imagine how awful it must be. Have a hug and take care of yourself. You're being an absolute angel to them right now. Sending plenty of good vibes and prayers and stuff...

Mort,
It's brilliant to know that there are such huge-hearted people as you in the world. What you do, whilst obviously draining, is so much more important than oodles of stuff that keeps us mortals occupied. Please please come here and ask for a top-up to that big heart of yours whenever you need it. (We'll all try).

Mort, I've only just seen this, and I have almost no experience of this sort of thing. Obviously I will remember you all.

I hadn't planned to pop in here so soon, but I am left gob smacked by a call I received earlier from a nurse. 'Mort, I spoke to <wife's name> earlier and told her that it wasn't fair to expect you to be available to see him. I told her not not 'phone you at the weekend'.
I pointed out that I had spoken to his wife and made arrangments, plus sorted things with my Manager, so all was fine. But she just repeated her script. What really infuriates me is that she may have made his wife feel guily about contacting me.
When I gave my response to the nurse I wasn't quite as approaching incandescent with fury as I am now.

Bluddy Hell Mort,
That is not on.
You are a caring sharing practitioner, what right has that Nurse have to interfere? I would report her/him for malpractice. Interfering Jobsworth.

You don't need to draw a line under it. There's plenty of room on here for all.

A running, prancing reptile agrees with Milly. If other people have Chals and Upses, they can post practically simultaneously with you. Keep us posted as the spirit moves you.

Absolutely, Mort. After all, it's the sort of forum where others will let you know if you're asking too much.... None of us can give of ourselves all the time without some sort of refuelling, and I'm very aware just how demanding your presence on the board as a Mod is, too: need I say more?

I heard the usual warning that "some viewers may find some of the following distressing" on the 6 O'Clock News tonight and thought nothing of it - but it was about the little girl whose father killed her by snapping her spine. I can't remember being so upset by a news item, I was at the end.

Yes - that "usual warning"; in contexts such as this, one might be forgiven for wondering about those other viewers that may not have done...

Yes it wasn't much of a warning either! Hardly any time to reach for the remote control. I only just made it. I already knew about it from the first newspaper article, so I had already grieved for the poor little mite. I think the sentence was too light. They should have locked him away for life. And the mother, for standing by and letting it happen.
