It couldn't be worse than the van I bought from Rodney Trotter, could it?

esp. after leaving the pub to find some wag had stuck a couple of bumper stickers on it:

"Isopon Suicide Kit" on one end and "Plastic Pigs Rule OK" on the other

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Having a fidgety, restless sort of evening. Trying to sort out my CDs so that everything is filed nicely. Trying not to think about stuff. Failing!

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

In the sense that when we look back at things that felt like disasters at the time, they don't seem like disasters. They're just things that have happened to us, that we've survived, overcome, and made part of our biographies. Not in the sense that everything is for a reason. Definitely not in that sense. 'We shall see'. I like that.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I suppose the key is deciding what you think 'well' means. My working definition seems to be 'something that has happened' (where the past tense is the most important thing) which isn't terribly profound but it works for me.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Did I mention that I'm having a funny evening?

'We shall see'.

I had a jolly good sort out of CDs a few weeks ago. I put the least played (about 60) into one of those album things, that are rather like photo albums. The booklets were put into a special drawer and the CD cases thrown out, simply to make more room. And duplicates have gone into a plastic bag for the next time I get one of those bags to leave outside the front door for a charity shop.

Sometimes it is worth asking oneself the question, what was I worried about two years ago? And then considering how important that is now.

First off, HH, as Milly rightly points out in her Waffle Thread 1645, it's a full moon tonight. Which might explain a few things.

But if you want to be certain I recommend filling your left sock with a mixture of garlic and thyme, tying it with a piece of twine that once held up the trousers of an incontinent vagrant*, and suspending it from the windowsill of your bedroom. It probably won't help with the ulcer, but you won't have to worry about being mistaken for normal by the neighbours.

*some authorities believe it is important to tie it only with the left hand while balancing on the left foot and keeping the right eye shut.

By popular request, a thought-provoking insight to perhaps give us all a sense of perspective.

I have been hunting for the book that the following comes from ever since I read  tps Bhuddist posting. Needless to say it was in the last place that I looked. ;DTypical.  Anyway .....

"Autobiography in Five Chapters"

1)   I walk down a street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
      I fall in.
      I am lost . . . I am hopeless.
      It isn`t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

2)   I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
     I pretend I don`t see it.
     I fall in again.
I can`t believe I`m in the same place.
     But it isn`t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

3)  I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
    I see it is there.
    I still fall in . . .  it`s a habit
    My eyes are open
    I know where I am
    It is my fault.
    I get out immediately.

4) I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
    I walk around it.

5) I walk down another street.

It comes from the Tibetan Book of Living and Dyiing by Sogyal Rinpoche

Mort, that reminds me of a blues song we improvised at university:

"I woke up this morning, (de-dee-de-dar)
and fell out of bed
Bashed my head on the floor
and now I am dea -"

But before walking down another street,
I put up a large sign saying,
"Beware, hole!" And
Reported it to the District Council Repairs Hotline.
It seemed the least I could do.

The Simple Wisdom of George Garnett. Where we'd be without it I have no idea. Down a hole probably.

Thanks for that, George. Made my day.  Cheesy

The biggest challenge of all.

An unpleasant surprise awaited me when I went out for an organ practice session this morning. I opened the service sheet for tomorrow and saw there among "those who have recently died" the name of a good friend, just 19. She had had a long trial with leukaemia and various other illnesses for the past year or so.

This is what beliefs are for though, isn't it? Cry

We had barely spoken for this past year. I have some guilt to remove.

Ach, daß die Luft so ruhig!
Ach, daß die Welt so licht!

Eruanto - that is such a sad story. Can I reassure you that with all deaths there is an element of guilt? There is always "If only...", "Why didn't I?", "I should have...". Try not to dwell on that, but on the friendship you had, and the fact that she will suffer no more, even though you will to some degree. There is deep truth in the idea of "resting in peace".

Music and poetry help to give you strength, I think.
