Thanks Bryn. Already been there. I just thought there may have been something less `sketchy` in the German article.l

The composer Karlheinz Stockhausen has died. His former wife Mary Bauermeister confirmed on Friday evening an announcement to this effect from the Stockhausen Edition. He died at the age of 79 in Kürten after a short, severe illness.

Stockhausen was one of the most renowned composers of the post-war era and a pioneer of electronic music. According to the Stockhausen Edition his output comprises 362 works, which have been published on 139 CDs. The funeral service, to be attended by his immediate family only, is planned for Thursday.

I trust the Süddeutsche will replace the missing 't' at the beginning of the second paragraph any minute now.

Ollie, I made a not dissimilar error in the title of the thread over at the Beeb's boards. Sad

Oh, dear: Stockhausen died on the birthday of Johannes Heesters, who's still alive and happily performing at the age of 103.

I don't think that Karlheinz must have been a great fan of Heesters:

I can't think of him as being 79. He'll always be that long-haired 60s figure in my mental gallery. Sad news.

To me musically as well as visually he'll always be the 1950s-1960s tireless innovator.

Is it my imagination or is the Guardian obit a little mean-spirited?

Given the identity of its author I'd expect little else.
