Does anyone remember the TV sitcom Citizen Smith?

Oh yes, was mentioned in the camp thread here (post 71). I also brought it up in a lecture once about how approaches to performance practice can utterly change the way something is perceived Wink. For those who don't remember the programme, the opening and closing titles can be viewed here (are those the steps at the South Bank, by Waterloo Bridge, that he is climbing for the third 'Power to the People'?).

Remarkably clearly.

Regarding Cliff Richard, he was the fictitious hero of another TV-wanna-revolutionary - Rick, the "People's Poet" in "The Young Ones".

eurovision has been a family party for years, we use it as an occasion for communal joy. the kids all sang along and remebered the Ukrainian entry, and also really loved the French pink punk pop entry. everyone hated the serbian dirge that won and got really cross with Malta for giving the UK 12 points, along with some other country they ruined a perfect evening, our national ambition was a resounding nil point!

it's bread and circuses innit?

Doing wavy things with your arms in these parts can be interpreted as a sign of aggression, or impending contraflow, insurance job with the lighters in the dark,which is probably why Catford's entry didn't get too far and that Celine Dion had a rough time of it when she last played the dog track.

But surely while he's been in office it has been generally understood that "secrets" are things which, by definition, are for journalistic and other leaking only?

By the way, I had once thought that one of the "songs" once performed by the egregious Harry Rodger Webb (aka Sir Cliff Hanger-in) was entitled Live on Dole until I listened more carefully - but then perhaps I should hve reserved that one for Ian's new "bourgeoisie" thread...

I have to say i couldnt bear to watch the thing, but art, or a brave stab at it,seems to have won through. i can remember a drumming interlude before the voting a year or two back was brilliant. I must hunt for this song online.As Ian said a while back, a country doing its indigineous thing without (campery) should-and can-make the genre work.

As the votes were being counted I did think 'why is this winning?', but it ws a gd performance, the only problem is I couldn't lock onto a hook.

I really liked the Bulgarian one with the proggy-ish percussion set-up.
